Free Web Gallery Software?

Post by R00k »

I've been getting quite a few pictures with my new digicam, and I'm slowly learning how to touch them up and make better compositions out of them.

Now I've got friends and family asking me all the time to send pics to them of my trips, diving, etc.

Since I've already got webspace, I can send them links directly to pics, but it would be really nice if I could have thumbnailed galleries of all of them so they're browsable and easy to find.

Are there any packages out there -- if not free, then at least very affordable -- that will automatically generate thumbnail pages for images in web directories?

I'm hoping some people in here have had experience with them so I can get an idea of how well they work - and with different/older browsers and PCs.

Thanks in advance. :icon32:

Maybe one that doesn't require a MySQL backend? :(

Requires MYSQL, oops. Maybe relevant for someone else, so I'll leave it.

Most people have photoshop...

I'm using Photoshop 6 to creaty my picture galleries, I edited the default templates and let Photshop create the magic.

From compact flash to 800x600 images with thumbnailed pages in just under 2 minutes for 100 photos. That includes inserting the CF and opening Photoshop ;)

it ain't the most awesome, but it's fast and easy :icon14:

I have PS and I didn't even know it did that. :o

Does it handle irregularly sized images without distorting the thumbnails?

I want to edit my photos and crop/resize a lot of them before putting them up.

edit: I'm using Photoshop CS, so I assume it has the functionality if 6 had it...

I believe it's under File > Automate > Web Photo Gallery.

It doesn't distort any of my photos example

lastly all you really need to do is edit their simple Html templates for the gallery and picture pages. It took me an hour to do this for 3 sites. :icon14:
