Windows MCE 2005 Alternatives...

MCE 2005 is becoming more and more of a headace for me, and i'm wondering if there are some alternatives that i could try.

A PVR from your local Cable company. I've been contemplating trashing the MCE 2005 box for a silent small PVR. The only problem is my wife loves the photo slideshow feature. She likes letting it go while listeneing to music...

the whole point is for it to look/act like MCE.. i am going to format the HTPC tonight with standard XP, and Give'er.
Ohh, and btw, that proggy has full support for the MCE remote
( w00t w00t ) And DVS Cards ( w0000 w000 Free to air Satelight! )
edit: i will update my thaughts/impressions here as this progresses.

I hear Mythtv is a good alternative for MCE.

And here's a nice semi-detailed video on how to set it up: http://www.systm.org/

thanks.riddla wrote:Its slow and locks up. alot. I'm running all approved equipment on Intel mobo/cpu and I'm also an IT Director by profession so its not due to being a n00b as Thoapboy would say
*maybe* its better by now, but its an open-source project so it couldnt have improved all that much in the last few months since I poured alot of time into giving it a chance to work properly. (on 2 diff rigs)
