It will die, yes.
Here's a priceless quote from Rep. Randy Cunningham (R).

Ask the men and women who stood on top of the Trade Center. Ask them and they will tell you: pass this amendment.

Normally private land can only be taken by a government under what's called "Eminent Domain". This means, IIRC, that your land can be taken for the greater public good, like a highway or something. You'll be paid for your home and land, but tough shit, you're out. That to me has at least a patina of legitimacy, but for the most part it's complete crap.
As for what the Supreme Court just legitimized, well, that's an abomination.

Anywhere west of Quebec you don't have to speak french at all. In my home province there's a shitload of french people and small french communities...but outside of that (and Quebec and the Maritimes) the frenchies are few and far between.Transient wrote:I'm moving to Canada after College.
Hey, can anyone reccommend a nice place to live where I won't have to know French or ever deal with communication issues?
And I flunked the shit out of French in school...but it didn't really matter unless I was watching the hockey game on the french channel.

Yes, they've already been doing this for years, especially in touristy places like Las Vegas and parts of Florida, where 'public good' and 'private profit' are made out to be so interrelated. I remember reading about a casino in Vegas that was built on some land that was taken through Eminent Domain. They normally try to justify it by the amount of tax dollars that will be made from said project, which supposedly benefits the public enough to justify taking people's property.
It's just that the practice was never legitimized by the supreme court until now. Now citizens have absolutely no hope whatsoever of any legal recourse if this ever happens to them.
Originally under Eminent Domain, land was only taken when it was to be for public use -- roads, state parks, power and water plants, etc.
I'm a pretty cynical bastard sometimes, but I never dreamed the Supreme Court would actually rule in favor of this horseshit. Guess I was expecting too much from the court that decided they had the power to appoint a president.
