I can relate. The fella who I work with and I recount our childhood experiences of Beavis and Butthead on a daily basis. Before we started working together, I hadn't thought about that show since it was canceled.. heh heh yeah FIRE.

My guess was bleach, but that would've utterly destroyed the molding (guessing it's rubber) and would've easily been picked out by the smell, so I'm going to subscribe to the pool juice story myself.

The only paint thinner I've used is Terpintine and from the looks of that there is no way Terpintine could do that.

Pool chemicals seem to be a likely candidate

There are about a hojillion solvents that will do that. HCl is very strong in commercially available concentrations, so I'd expect it to still be eating away at the metal of the bodywork. Hard to say that it's not just from looking at the pic, though.

the area of removed paint looks like maybe 3-4 onces

it looks car washed already in the pic so no leftover paint to check out

i think the molding is some sort of PVC plastic... but he said it also discolored his tire... but didn't eat the rubber.

no odor tends to discriminate against the HCL theory then...but another sort of acid or base is a definite candidate, since it burned him

the burning definately rules out brake fluid... + i doubt any brake fluid can take the color out of rubber.

Then its more likely the less accesable acids that are stronger like sulphuric (which you can get from car batteries) or my favourite Nitric acid

i think persionally that you are all a little off, when i was working at the Body shop, i used a Solvent ( more of a Jelly, allthough you can get it in more of a liquid form ) That will Strip paint, yet not primer..

if its a Base Clear paintjob ( that basically NO Cars come with anymore. ) it wont do a thing unless the Clear Coat is taken off.

if its an Acrylic Enamel ( also known as a once stage paint ) it will rip the fucking shit off like it was on sale for $1.99

Sorry, the name of it Slips my mind, if need be.. i can find out later if need be.

( btw, no rubbing or anything is needed with this Stuff, if its on an angle like that, the paint will Shink up like its burning, then just fall right off no traces or anything, only smooth ass primer. )

Look at the splashes outside of the main 2 spots. You don't get that with a jelly unless its fired from a gun. Look at the runoff below...thats no jelly

yeah, just due to the dribble marks, its definately a liquid.
and would that body shop paint stripper stuff burn flesh on contact?
