What do you listen to when driving?

Post by Transient »

I'm trying to compile a playlist for while driving to classes and home each day. Something that will leave me in a positive and upbeat mood when I get in the room each morning, i.e. something alternative or rock, maybe with a bit of techno or pop mixed in?

So far off the top of my head I thought of:
Metallica - Fuel
Dirty Vegas - Days Go By (that remix from the TV commercial a while back)
Foo Fighters - All My Life
Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way
Methods of Mayhem - Crash

Help me build my list. My trip is 30 minutes each way and I don't want to listen to the same thing both ways, so I need about 40 more minutes of music. Suggestions? :D

NPR. 99% of what's on the radio is shit. I listen to Bob and Tom on the way in to work, but other than that it's NPR. BBC WORLD 4 LIFE!

lately, I've been listening to a lot of John Mellencamp and random radio since I have a casette-to-cd setup in my car, which is kind of frustrating sometimes.

I just made a Bob Seger/Boston hits mix today :) Upbeat music like AC/DC and JCM make the long drive easier.

other days it'll be more metal stuff. Really isn't different from my normal listening habits.
what lies beyond...

You know, I just have a CD holder with 92 albums that I absolutelly love. These range from house music to classic rock. I would absolutelly suggest you do the same.

If it's not your deal, then you should just check the Dance Alternative Charts and the UK Dance Charts and grab the top 10.

The hopeless, the terrified
you're petrified, it's time to die
i vomit in the face of the faithful
the mislead, the ignorant
the ones who are truly dangerous
the holy
the justice system
the president
the ones who are truly dangerous
it's time to die

decomposition of the human race
a warning from beyond the grave
out of the ashes
and into the fucking flames

the soulless, the unworthy
the undead
now walk the earth in pain
they hunt you
to devour
to massacre you
to overtake this world
the mislead
the ignorant
the ones who are truly dangerous
it's time to die

decomposition of the human race
a warning from beyond the grave
out of the ashes
and into the fucking flames

the image of man betrays that which
distinguishes him from the other animals
his ability to observe himself
the decay of modern society, leads to doom.
turn back the clock
retreat
into the essence of life
but it's too late for you now

decomposition of the human race
a warning from beyond the grave
out of the ashes
and into the fucking flames

varicose the heart is now closed
eyes still open, but soon you'll decompose
you're on your way to your grave
and it's a bottomless pit

I'd do that, but I don't have albums, just MP3s for the most part. I also don't have a CD player in my car, though for my birthday in 2 months hopefully I'll be getting one installed.

I left my last portable CD player in the car and the heat fried it. I'm guessing the same won't happen to one that's installed into the dashboard. :)

KMFDM, NIN, AC/DC, some classical mixes, and Miles Davis are always in the CD case. Others come and go.

I only kill when I can't keep them four days and then I sleep them-
To the grave that's right bitch, uh huh
You ll know I'm there when I follow turn around I'm behind you
I'm in the shadows close, so close I've almost got you
Doomed to the end dead from the beginning
That's right hear what the fuck I'm saying
I can't think straight I'm gonna break, break down
You can't escape you re gonna die slow now
It's all a part of my master plan
Everyone ends up dead in the end
Hell yeah
What the fuck you gonna do now, huh?- pray to a God that isn't there? No
Fall to your knees and die for me- I have the cure for your Christian disease
I live this life to kill, homicidal
And now you lie dead with your Bible
Choke on your fucking cross motherfucker
I hope your soul is lost forever
Nothing will change in me- nothing will ever change
Nothing will change in you- nothing will ever change
We re surviving on hatred, we re surviving on hate
Nothing will ever change my hatred
a defining attribute of a government is that it has a monopoly on the legitimate exercise of violence...

In the mornings I listen to Howard Stern or Rover's Morning Glory (awesome show based in Cleveland).

Otherwise I pop in a CDR loaded with MP3s and find whatever I'm in the mood for. Unfortunately someone stole all my CDs while my car was sitting outside my house over the weekend so I have reburn everything...

Infected Mushroom are amazing if you have a nice system.

Thanks for the replies thus far, guys. I found a few more to add to my list, plus some of what you mentioned reminded me of other directories to look in or songs to look into.

Blur - Crazy Beat
Concord Dawn - Morning Light
Crystal Method - Murder
Die Warzau - Insect
Gillette - Sex Tonight
Grand Theft Audio - As Good As It Gets
Harvey Danger - Paranoia

I hate rap. There are only a select few in the entire genre I enjoy. Same goes for country and hip hop and pop.
