DELL pwnage D-View laptop stand w\pics (kick ass)

Post by Giraffe }{unter »

Not sure why but my boss ordered me a new laptop to replace my Dell Latitude C840 (P4 1.8GHZ 1.0GB Ram.) Dell's new D/View Notebook Stand is AWESOME it sits open on an angle so you can use your laptop screen as another monitor. It has a keyboard hook that elevates the keyboard for more comfortable typing (only Dell Keyboards fit though). It also has a cable management system to hide all the unsightly cables inside. Anyone picking up a new notebook should look into getting this style of docking station not only for dual monitor, but for space saving single montior, it allows you to put the laptop screen elevated and right in your face so even at 1920x1200 my bad eyes can use this as a main screen.

I also tossed in a pick of the new Inspiron 700m with the new type of screen everyone is buzzing about, it makes DVDs and games look so much better, but it sucks for high glare areas

We try to only buy Dell no major issues and with Gold service every problem fixed ASAP

Servers we have 4 hour replacement
Desktops and laptops 24 hour onsite repair no matter where the user is.

I could care less what goes on behind the scenes at Dell they take great care of our account and of the hundreds of Dells we have in house on the rare occasion they go down, it's nice to know we can get help in less than 24 hours 99.9% of the time.

DELLOWNT my desk a few months ago ;)

Same thing with most resteraunts, but people still eat out. I'm sure some guy some where is eating a $40.00 steak that has been on the floor in a freezer next to a dead body...

I guess it's location, the type of account and the service contract. I cannot stand Toshiba Service and IBM all together, but there are people that swear by them. I've had so many users without their laptops for over 60 days due to parts out of stock on a warrantee repair with IBM and Toshiba, yet at the most Dell will make me wait 48 hours on a non-critical part.

I'm sure Dell sucks for some people out there

then i guess corporations get the good stuff. 200+ workstations among other Dell products and they've proven very reliable.

It's all up to personal preferance man you can argue till you're blue in the face I will still tell you IBM and Toshiba Suck and Dell owns all. Same with everyone else

Dell has done good by me and my company for the last 5 years solid. I handle about 80% of the warrantee claims, which are not that many... and they've come through every time...

they just feel like the cheap pieces of shit that they are. the ignorant consumer who buys it wouldn't know the difference anyway. it's the "walmart" computer, cheap shit for people who don't know any better, eg 99.99% of the american consumer.

when i got mine i was expecting a piece of shit, and that's exaclty what i got. i just needed a cheap laptop to play games at work.

i'm not even talking about customer support or warranty. they were pretty good about that, although i would have to wait an hour on the line to get anyone. IBM i didn't wait on the line at all, and they always overnighted any parts i needed. when i had to get work done on an IBM, but i couldn't have the laptop shipped, they worked with me to have a local shop do the work at no charge to me. they just shipped them the parts and had them do the work over a lunch break. i don't even want to imagine how dell would fuck up something like that.

the difference is in construction. i got my first laptop imported from japan through http://www.dynamism.com, and you can't even imgagine what a well made laptop is if all you've owned are dells. even ibm is infinitely better when it comes to construction. the keyboards on IBM alone are worth the extra money vs the crap keyboards on dells. then there's the titanium chasis, vs plastic on the dells. let's not even talk about terrible placement for the cpu, and gpu. anyone can put together a laptop, but when there's actual RD involved in the design you get products that are a cut above. my sharp didn't even have a fan, and never oveheated it was completely silet. it also had an incredibly responsive keyboard, and the best screen technology on the market. i had to get my dell motherboard replaced twice because it was running too hot.

so yeah dell is ok, if your work gets it for you for free, or if you know you're getting cheap shit, but don't have any delusions, they are garbage.

edit: typos, and there's probably more.

yawn...

It's already been said there is no need to write a book on why you hate dell, I could prolly type 10 paragraphs on all the good experiances and equipment I have had with them.

good experiences doesn't mean they are not garbage. most of my experiences with them have been positive too. i did have to wait on the line to talk to them, but they resolved my problems.

my point is that they are designed and put together badly, and constructed from cheap parts and materials.
