Anyone remember this game (1990) called countdown?

took me ages to figure out how to finish. There was one part i was stuck for what seemed like over a year, until a friend figured it out.

good ol days before internet walkthroughs existed.

what was cool about countdown is that you didn't need a fancy soundcard to hear the music and speech - so on the old 16 mhz PC with no soundcard, you could actually hear what sounded like real music. And there was ingame digitized video!

never played that one, but speaking of good sound from a pc speaker, one game came to mind for me. world class leader board golf. "looks like he hit the tree, jim!" i remember being amazed at that

YES. I loved the access adventure games. God, jules, I am really starting to miss the good old says of mediocre graphics with digitized background and shitty sound. For some reason, I still think I had more fun when games where in the technological 'stone age.'

Proof, IMHO, that a good game transcends all the graphical bells and whistles you can think of.

Flashback was awesome, quite difficult at the end. I loved the futuristic city design.

Who remembers the game from the same developers that came out before Flashback and used vectorbased gamefigures too?

I've found it, it's Another World aka Out Of This World:

The sequels were Flashback and Fade to black

very cool - thanks.

I played fade to black briefly. I remember a magazine describing it as a thinking man's doom. (as in ID software doom)
