''The first thing you have to do when you join a match is finding better guns then the one you equipped with. The speed of the movement you travel trough the maps is really Quake3-ish: very fast. The layout of the (presented) map is also Quake3-ish: jumppads, difference in heights and portals''.
CTF-round:
''Ofcourse very Quake3-ish in terms of design and gameplay. Also recognizable are the team-signs -and banners on the walls and stuff.
Raven is still tweaking the multiplayer-aspect of QuakeIV and until now, it isn't finished yet.''
Some other interesting questions asked to Tim Willits:
PCGP: Although the AI is good enough, we're missing some tactical remedy's, like leaning behind objects like crates or giving simple orders.
Tim: ''There are 2 reasons why we didn't implement these feature, even though we have tested them. Giving orders to your teammates doesn't match the common approach of Quake4. Just like before, Quake4 is an fast paced shooter. We thought that giving orders didn't fit, because they hold up the speed of the game too much. The AI is clever enough so everything is gonna run fast and smoothly.
Then your question about the leaning-thingy. It's more a practical decision we've made because Quake4 is gonna to be a XBOX 360-game too and you can't lean good enough with the controller.''
Another one:
PCGP: During playing the game, we've seen that after every level-reload the enemy-AI was doing the same things all over the time. Is everything scripted like seen in Doom3?
Tim: No. Some tactical events are scripted, but compared with Doom3, alot of enemy-AI will behave dynamically. It depends on the environment. If you decide to attack an enemy without doing tactical tricks, your teammates will cover you also but the Stroggs also knows what you're doing or planning to do.
Releasedate end of this year?
PCGP: When can we expect Quake4?
Tim: We think we're finished with Quake4 at the end of this year.
Thats all I know Sounding good on the MP front, but average on the SP Time will tell...
How many games have you played that really do have good AI though? With the exception of maybe FarCry, most first person games could fool you into thinking they have the same AI as the original Doom.
Its no shock that the AI is "average" in id's latest game, but i agree, its time that we got some DECENT AI for once, instead of fancy visuals. I woudl happily sit there and play a bog standard looking game, if it challenged me for once...
