Battlefield 2
for everyone with an ATI card that gets a black screen then goes to desktop, it's a refresh problem.
i had to uninstall REFORCE refresh rate fix first then set it in game. so if you have any kind of refresh rate fix thingy, could be the problem.
fucking hard to believe they could let a refresh rate problem slip through

It's the same as BF1, actually a lot of games have this. That's because the game defaults to 800x600@60Hz, and ReForce has this overwritten so the game fails to load. I found MultiRes to work much better with refresh rates, ReForce is kinda old it needs an update.shadd_. wrote:for everyone with an ATI card that gets a black screen then goes to desktop, it's a refresh problem.

But anyway, it's easily fixed by allowing all refresh rates, this way it should at least let you in the menu then you could adjust to your liking. Look a few posts back on where to find the file that needs that value changed.
EDIT: And why EA dosen't have the setting changed to allow all by default is beyond me.
Bollocks. When games don't deliberately dissalow the card, my Ti4200 works just fine. Hasn't got all the latest bells and whistles, but I set Half Life 2 to all medium settings and it was quite happy enough. Likewise with Far Cry.Bdw3 wrote:Thus why I didn't even bother installing it on my computer....
It really is time for a new video card.
I reckon there's another 12 months in this graphics card yet, even if I do eventually have to move down to the low detail settings for games.
Seems really fucking stupid for BF2 not to be able to support a Geforce 4.

How so? Lets assume that same pipe thast used on HTTP is pushing it via BT, people have to share SOMEWHAT, even if its 3k.. thats MORE bandwidth for everyone..Foo wrote:Bitorrent is much less efficient that HTTP downloading when there's only 1 peer and 1 seed. So for the thousands and thousands of individual files that FilePlanet has archived, that would represent a very large overhead on their servers, all the time.
Even with 1 seed, 0 peers, the seed has to talk to the tracker periodically.
Perhaps if Fileplanet had a tracker for brand new files, that would be viable.
same as http, just with more bandwidth..
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.
It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

I do have a problem though and maybe someone here can help me.
This game and in UT2004 when I push forward I keep going forward even if I let go, It's like the command from the key board is going faster than the game.
After a few seconds I stop, but during that time if I move sideways or move backwards it has to complete all the other key functions that I gave it earlier.... I hope all this makes sence but for some reason in only those two games that this happens.
So is there a setting somewhere that I need to make this stop?

yeah i know what youre trying to say. sounds a bit fucked up.
sticky key setting in windows maybe? try setting different movement binds like arrow keys and see if the problem remains.

Goddamn thing keeps locking up shortly after I enter the map. I noticed that it's happening quicker since I turned the eye candy up. I switched the sound to H/W and disabled EAX, no change.
Fuck this, I'll wait and hope they have it sorted in the retail release.
For those that are able to play, is there anything that makes this more than Desert Combat 2?

ive been using the audigy>audigy2 modded drivers for over a year. way better performance/sound quality imo.
might want to check into it, it's like a free upgrade to an audigy2.
I've got a ATI 9700, BF2 crashes to the desktop. Changed the values like you said, and same thing with a slightly longer delay. Any other ideas as to how to fix the problem?dzjepp wrote:It's the same as BF1, actually a lot of games have this. you would just use the same modded driver as a regular audigy no?dzjepp wrote:While on the subject, would you know of a moded audigy ls driver? Creative released sb live drivers this year ffs, but there leaving the ls users shortsided.
anyways i have a patched version of EAX4DRV_AUDIGY2_1_84_50
i use a little patcher program called ctcomp. you can patch any version of audigy2 drivers to install on audigy with it. i upgraded to the version above tonight and they have been stable in bf2, ut2004,q3 so far.
lemme know if you want me to send em and how.

latest drivers? you could try reinstall of drivers too. that should clear any refresh fix stuff you may have.
It's VERY addictive =) Me and a friend (and two for a while) have been playing it for 9 hours straight now
We used VT for coms and drove around in buggis or other vehicles and took flags or snipers or whatever our commander said. For a few hours we had the best fucking commander
Only we who listened to him, but it was essential to win =)
I loved it. Much better and fun than the previous ones
And the buggies are crazy fast
had some wicked jumps

Good question.dzjepp wrote:So rep, does this game blow that pos novalogic offering out of the water or what?
Graphics: totally. It has all the bells and whistles and runs nicely.
Netcode: Nah. I doubt we'll ever see a 150 person server where everyone has 30 to 60ms ping times like in Joint Operations.
Gameplay: Tied. Joint Operations is more fun because of it's blend of realism and the arcade, and you don't have to worry about two clowns running numerous airstrikes on your only base at a timed interval so as to bomb you right when everyone spawns. Battlefield 2 is obviously a more realistic war experience, but I don't think that's the right direction to go.
We're in a new era of gaming. DOOM 3, Half-Life 2, Battlefield 2 all have far more interaction than any previous game. Let's do a timeline, okay?
FPS Games.
Early 90s: High colors, crazy enemies, lots of comedy.
Mid 90s: Gothic fantasy, high-medium color
Late 90s: High color, high tech, futuristic battle
Early 00s: Accuracy based competitive play, high color.
2005: Wasted, desaturated, depressing realism. Sun bleached villas with rotting food and billboards in another language that are torn and bubbling from the heat.
I'll project 2010 for you: Extreme realism, less color.
What it all means? The human mind is only an interpretation device. The world that your mind draws out for you is the only world that matters, be it virtual or 'reality'. When it's exposed to realistic situations dealing with death and destruction, not only does it have the effect of desensitization, but a break down of common moral ethics. When games become so real that it mirrors reality, how is it any different than participating in the real situation, of course discarding the fact that you're not physically there? The first time any of us viewed material from the ludicrous horror/gore sites that litter the internet and post autopsy images, beheadings, accidents, and other things that don't belong in public places, it had an immediate effect on us. Even I, who am clearly the bravest and most manliest man out of anyone who reads this, squinted and curled my lip when I saw 'bike guy'. What does it do to society when a budding generation is spending their free time in war simulations? You'll end up with a bunch of people like the chopper gunner in Full Metal Jacket, shooting civilians. "GET SOME! GET SOME! YEAH, GET SOME!" People without ethical barriers to stop them from going overboard because they no longer understand what's wrong and right.
Long story short: Within 10 years gamers will start getting (similar to vietnam vets) post traumatic stress syndrome.
"But it's not real!" Neither are the pixels displaying 'bike guy'.
