My best round of golf, ever, today

Post by tnf »

shot a 66. with a bogey even.

Surgeon figures I've got 10 or so years before another surgery, so I have to get as many rounds like this in as possible.

It was a par 71. So 5 under par.

I've shot quite a few 68s and 69s, a never a 67, and now a 66.

Best 9 hole score is 31 (on a pretty easy course though.)

I've also had some 83s, 82s, and 79s in there the past few weeks...

consistency--

I think I once got a bogey while playing golf. It was a par 3, 100 yards to the hole. I took the lady's handicap.

My first shot sailed a clear 50-60 yards with my driver, which I was very proud of. The second shot was from the rough, and again I used my driver to hit it straight onto the green... a pure miracle if I may say so. 15 feet from the hole, I putted the bitch to within 3 feet, very nice if I may say so. Then, by another miracle, I made the 3 foot putt.

4 strokes, 100 yards, into the hole. That was a day to remember.

Nice.

Today in teh tournament I was in I was grouped with a kid who is a tight end at a local university. he is also a 0 handicap (very good). On a 330 yard par 4, straight into the wind, he FLEW his drive onto the green. I've put it on the green off teh tee there before, but only after it rolled a bunch and I was downwind. This was unbelievable. He was routinely hitting it 330-350 off the tee today.

Tiger Wood PGA Tour?

today was the 2nd round. made miracle putts all day long to shoot 70.

My $150 putter was stolen a few weeks ago, so I picked up a decent one for 29.99 on clearance from 100 bucks at the local sporting goods store (every now and then they'll have a nice brand name club on clearance...) and am putting better with this one than my expensive one. I should thank whoever stole it.

blah, you make me sick man :p

I'm getting a little better, but I still have a bad slice on my drives (I'm swinging my arms out too far parallel to the ground on my backswing instead of straight up-and-down), I'm pushing my iron shots still when I'm not chunking them, and my putting/punching/chipping is inconsistent.

I vow to not give up though :) If I break a 47 on my local 9-hole course it's a good day. A long way to go *sniff*

That's fucking aamzing.
5 under par (par 71)...last year I shot a 69 on a course that was a par 70...but I had 5 bogeys in that round (5 bogeys, 6 birdies, 7 pars)

My dad is better than I am consistency-wise. He is 55 and fired consecutive rounds of 66-67 a few weeks ago, along with a span of 42 holes without a bogey. I was born into golf, played it as a kid, then dropped out of it my junior year of high school to fuck around. Got back into it in college, but they didn't have a team at my college, so I just played for the hell of it in tournaments and whatnot here and there. Since the neck surgery I don't play as much, so I am always happy when I am able to string together two good days in a tournament.

Drove the ball great this weekend too...had 5 drives today over 300 yards. Trust me, though, I can get real inconsistent.

I used to be able to drive the ball near 300 yards, at least by my estimates. I'm losing distance now too.

Well, I'm not sure if that's what I'm doing. In your "normal" backswing, you swing straight back and down, right? Well I have a tendency to swing "out" away from my body and back at the same time, kind of like a sledgehammer/sword swing, or a more elliptical motion, if that makes sense. So, when I come down on the ball, I'm going across my body and putting way too much spin on it.

However it's harder to correct than it seems :\ My driving used to be so straight and long.

My backswing is *really* slow, I've always done it that way. Sometimes I swing like Jim Furyk (almost straight-up-in-the-air backswing, no arc), which works here and there, but on certain clubs causes me to chunk it.

My golf game is just inconsistent, can't really say much more. I just need to play more.

I wish I would have played in high school and at least messed around more on our college course.

And yea, a 66? Holy poo.
