I find it contradictory to allow porn, yet 'censor' it. They allow cocks. They allow cunts. But they don't allow cocks to be in cunts.

It's laws implemented after WW2 I think by the US. If not it was definitely influenced by the US, but it was laws enacted right after WW2.

It's like here, on TV (past 9pm at night, which also allows any kind of swearing you like) they can show dicks, but not errect dicks. Not that I'd like to see that, but still.. it's not hugely offensive.

Wha?? Are you talking about being able to see your basic full frontal nudify, a la the movie Quills or some other artsy movie? I can't see how that would fit into the context of a TV show or drama.

Not really. Their porn laws are somewhat of an artifact of our occupation post WWII. Their constitution, AFAIK, was created to include a ban on obscenity...partially to appease us...and of course what WE considered illegal obscenity back in the 1940's included depictions of genitalia/penetration. So thank Douglas MacArthur for the pixelation madness. While our anti-pornography laws have liberalized over the years, theirs have not....which seems to have led to the superabundance of cartoon bondage, schoolgirl rape and monster fucking themes that you find in a lot of Japanese erotica today.

What I find odd is that aside from the pixellation of real penetration, hentai-type things are popular and somewhat mainstream. I was watching a show on the History Channel about Japanese sexuality since 1500, and it showed this guy reading a tentacle porn graphic novel on a subway train like it was any old regular book. the law regarding porn doesnt not seem to be based on morals, its based on pure rules, ive seen porn where some woman is getting hurt and crying, but never seen an actual pussy.

as much as i love japan, it pisses me off because 90% of the population are far too polite to ever complain about the other 10% who behave like pricks, i could masturbate on the train and no one would try to stop me, they would just look away and moan to their friends about it.
