Customisablity? Choose the shell / editor which does what you want it to do. If you dont like it, download the soruce code and modify it yourself.Freakaloin wrote:a million shells, a million editors, a million different cmds for each shell...etc etc...talk about GAY...whats the story?

You are clearly uninformed.Freakaloin wrote:a million shells, a million editors, a million different cmds for each shell...etc etc...talk about GAY...whats the story?
All shells accept the same Unix commands. Some shells have special syntax to create scripts. There are also a variety of command line programs written for and in Unix. The fact that there are many to choose from is a whole different topic. I don't know what exactly you're installing, but my linux box has 1 editor, 1 shell, and only the programs I need on it. Perhaps you should steer away from RedHat. Or better yet, read when you're installing it.
Secondly, if you compare the Unix shell to the Windows command prompt, you will see that one is clearly supperior than the other. You seem to forget that for the stability of things, alot of the internet depends heavily on Unix in some way, shape, or form.
If you get so intimidated by a few shell commands, then well perhaps computers are not for you. I hear Apple have a new wave of computers about to be released. Perhaps their GUI interface will suit you more. You seem to easily forget that only 6 years ago, you were using windows 98 and had to use commands like Fdisk and Format.
However, I encourage you to try to administer a cisco firewall or router without knowing Unix. It is quite difficult. Specially when dealing with an institution that depends on that one box.
