it was different, and all of a sudden you have a bunch of arrogant uneducated people using and abusing society rights meant for cognitive citizens, which ultimately led to this.saturn wrote:I suppose this unnecessary excessive violence is funny in an inherently violent society.
gawd, you americans are really fucked up
you have a citizen that is not willing to cooperate with law inforcement on such a simple task/request, imagine how her attitude would degrade towards a more demanding request.
you're probably fishing, but she was looked upon as a potential if not inevitable risk

Yes...because anyone that won't hang up a phone is obviously a risk to society and should be put down for everyone's safety.
It's not surprising that "Bowling For Columbine" didn't really get anyone in the US to open their eyes and see the real truth: the US is a highly paranoid and fearful society that accepts violence against perceived enemies (real or not) and is so comfortable with this way of thinking that they've made it government policy.
I guess people really do get the country they deserve.
I was reading the replies with amazed feelings.
LOL, DUMB FAT BITCH GOT WHAT SHE DESERVED, SHOULDN'T HAVE LISTENED AND PUT THAT PHONE DOWN. LOL, SHE JIGGLED AND MOANED. ETC.
You guys are used to so much violence that if your cops use excessive force it's funny to you.
I'm really glad that I don't live in the United States of America. Christ, I'm actually getting worked up by this.

I'm an American. I agree this was excessive force.
She was still a stupid bitch though. :icon26:
I don't think she got what she deserved, but the officer was probably just doing a routine traffic stop for speeding or something like that. They do it dozens of times per day. If every one of the damn people called someone as you pulled them over to go on about how they were being pulled over & arrested, it would get on my nerves as well. I wouldn't do what he did, he overreacted. But it's not like her actions had no impact on the outcome.

The fact that you often want to beat the piss out of someone for "the dumbest thing" and that you enjoyed watching someone git whut they disserrve says alot about why Americans shoot each other when they're suffering from road rage or arguing over a parking spot.
I equate this line of thinking similar to the ideolgy of "evil must be destroyed and I'm the hero to do it".

I don't give a flying fuck if I get on someone's nerves. Just because someone is having a bad day doens't mean that anyone should be tasered for "stress relief".Psyche911 wrote:And honestly, you really think all Americans see this as proper handling of authority?

From a fucking cop on a civilian, no less.
[edit] I was on ebaumsworld the other day and saw a video of a guy giving a cop the finger on a sidewalk. The guy was obviously not a threat to the cop...but the cop pulled out his stick and clubbed the guy upside the skull. Then when the guy went down the cop beat the living shit out of him.
lol
Yeah...all in a day's work.
Excessive? Borderline...I would lean towards no though... Most people don't have a fucking clue what a cop goes through on the street every day, never knowing what situation is going to take off and get violent, nor how fast it can happen and how unpredictable it can be - i.e. a person that you might never think would get violent does. The woman repeatedly refused to follow an order, and was getting verbally abusive. Why should the cop have to wait for her to end up trying to smack him with her phone, trying to pepper spray him with something in her purse, or whatever? Might not have happened, but it might have. When a cop tells you to shut the up and get out of your car (after you've already been pulled over for an infraction), you do it. You don't tell them what to do, you don't argue with them about it, and you sure as fuck don't disregard 10 warnings to get out before you get tasered.
It would have been excessive if he gave her no warning. It would have been excessive if she had been cooperating. It would have been excessive if he pulled out the PR-24 and started whacking her upside the head with it. I don't know that I think it was excessive here.
For every situation like this, there are more where someone (man or woman) attacks a cop out of the blue in what begins as a verbal argument. And to try and look at tapes like this and play "armchair cop" using hindsight as your guide is ridiculous. In the midst of a situation like this you can't predict how it will play out, so officers should do what they need to in order to take control of the situation as quickly as possible using reasonable force when necessary. They should not have to give the other person a chance to gain a tactical upper hand by stalling or by letting them get even more irate and irrational.
Sure, there was probably a solution to this situation that might not have involved tasering, just like there are other solutions to pretty much every single fight/conflict/whatever. But when you are in the middle of one, you don't have the luxury of foresight.
Was it funny? Maybe not completely (although for people in this forum to take the moral high road about the appropriateness of things that are laughed at is pretty astonishing...).
So few people seem to have any fucking clue what it is like to be involved in a job where daily hazards include being shot at, having people attempt to run you over, dealing with violent gangs, drug dealers, etc., etc., etc...but these same people sure seem to feel qualified in telling them how to do their job - from the comfort of a chair in front of a tv or computer, of course. Of course, there are instances of excessive violence - which, unfortunately, only fuel the fires of those who want to paint every situation where force is used as one of them.
And yea, it's only use folks in the USA that seem to be insensitive to violence on these forums. The threads from all other parts of the world are always so much more appropriate and considerate of the feelings of all parties involved. We are just hardened like that.

Wasn't that a rent-a-cop security guard they were doing that to? Looked like one in the video when I saw it, in which case I could completely understand the beating...GONNAFISTYA wrote:I don't give a flying fuck if I get on someone's nerves. I agree with you that she was given more than sufficient warning but again this goes to my initial statement that the country is paranoid and violent.tnf wrote:Excessive? I've mentioned before in a previous thread how I question the mentality of someone who - in a job where he's supposed to protect everyone - thinks everyone is out to kill him....when in 99.9999999% of the cases this isn't true.
It also makes me wonder what it's like to have that initial aggressive attitude of a cop to a "normal" everyday event like TALKING TO SOMEONE IN PUBLIC combined with a "potentially violent" suspect...it seems doomed from the start and it will - more times than it should - degrade into a bad situation.
Like I said...it all depends on the approach I think. While I fully understand the cop's frustration with the (obviously) dumb and disrespectful woman maybe it could have turned out a little less like "a situation".tnf wrote: And to try and look at tapes like this and play "armchair cop" using hindsight as your guide is ridiculous.... I worked in a bar for 4 years and - occasionally - had to physically remove people. But...99 out of 100 times I never had to touch or raise my voice to people to get them out of the building. When the fight got mostly broken up I didn't make the situation worse by threatening to hit him with a chair if he didn't leave....which made my job easier.
From what I've seen in some people, when threatened, it's a natural tendancy to have their pride make them do stupid things....like defiantly refusing to turn off a phone. FFS people who interact with complete strangers daily should know this....and perhaps act accordingly.

For the record I wasn't poo-pooing anyone for laughing...I laughed because I thought the whole thing was retarded...much like Jackal's post seemed to point out.*tnf wrote:Was it funny? Besides...I was just trolling GH again.
*(DISCLAIMER: I can't say with certainty that Jackal actually laughed at the video. In fact I'd say he probably didn't laugh...because when you're lying in some shithole floor in a heroin-induced euphoric state with a needle hanging out of your arm, you pretty much can't laugh...or do anything else. Hell...he probably can't stop himself from drooling and slowly - yet gently - filling his pants with shit)

Holy fucking shit. Yeah, that was WAY too much. It would have been funny if they just yanekd her out of the car and cuffed her while she was screaming crap like "THIS BE ILLEGAL! I WANT MY LAWYER! YOU CAYNT DO THAT! YOU CAYNT DO THAT!" while she's getting thrown in the cop car.
But a tazer? Just because she wouldn't put her cell phone down? Fuck, that's just excessive (and possibly illegal?). I mean, aren't cops usually supposed to try more conventional methods before using a tazer to subdue someone? Seriously, I couldn't watch all of that. While yes, she did deserve some sort of punishment, she didn't deserve such a brutal physical attack.

He did. He said 'put the phone down and get out of the car' - then he warned her a number of times before tasering her. If he gets in and tries to pull her out, she can start thrashing around, scratching, biting, whatever. She he subdued her without putting himself in that position.eepberries wrote:

Plus, I am pretty sure a lot of that screaming was just her excessive nature anyhow. That lady would have put on a show with screaming and moaning if they had done nothing but gently put her in handcuffs. Granted, she was probably not feeling too hot, and I think the initial screaming was definitely the result of pain (and probably of surprise and shock - pun intended) but the way she kept carrying on made me think of a 2 year old that really has no reason to cry, but is going to do their damndest to keep trying. Or perhaps she's just loud naturally.
