This is the best place to ask for help. Especially about subjects like this. Really.

Um... get a second opinion from another dr?
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

Sorry, we have a lot of fun in here but I also know that there are a lot of brilliant people in here just as TNF not to name him.
<This is urgent, I am willing to try every resources I have to find a solution for my niece.

I know it is not a comic post but I am sure that between you all friends, someone know about it.

I don't know if you're serious pete. If you are, I don't know why the hell you'd ask the people here. She's probably at a hospital, maybe ask the doctors? Or a doctor at another hospital near by?

But anyways:

Page on some forms of treatment. WebMD can offer quite a bit of novice targeted medical advice. Sounds just right for you.

Bacterial or viral meningitis?

In either case, the place you should be going for help for her is probably not here.

But good luck.

Is it viral or bacterial meningitis, or do you know?

That distinction is a pretty important one in terms of treatment outlooks.

What are you looking for here, though, Pete? Information to give to her doctors?

I don't know much about meningitis, but it's not usually a good prognosis. It can be treated and people can walk away from it, but if it's not diagnosed quickly enough, it's pretty bleak.

I don't want to give you bad news (I'll let the real docs do that), but my advice would be to prepare for the worst.
My first suggestion is to consult multiple doctors. Then, discuss things with your family. If, god forbid, things should take a turn for the worst, at least you'll be prepared for it.

I'm sorry to hear about this pete, and I hope she pulls through. Best of luck to you both.

I don't intend to be cleavier than her doctor...Just want to save her. She is 19yo... I don't know if it is viral or bacterial...My cousin doesn't know I am trying to help her. No contact with him for 2 years. I Knew of it from my parents.

If it is viral, she will probably be OK. If it is bacterial, that's a different story.
She could have an infection with a strept bacteria (s. pneumoniae), a neisseria species (meningitidis), or a third (but can't remember which, it has been 7 years since my medical microbiology class...and I can't be arsed into googling right now).

Hopefully she doesn't have a strain that is uber resistant to most of the antibiotics out there...

Find out what antibiotics the docs are using on her (if they aren't using any, she's got viral and her prognosis is much better).

I'm no doctor though, so I can't speak from the experience of dealing with and seeing patients. Only 2 people here can do that.

Do you mean she has gained weight? That isn't a symptom of meningitis as far as I know. Or is does she looked 'swollen'?

She might have a viral infection, and have meningitis as a side effect of that viral infection.

I hate to sound cold here pete, but the bottom line is nothing you get in these forums is going to change the outcome of this situation. She is in the care of doctors who know her situation much, much better than anyone here, doctor or not, will be able to without seeing her themselves.

Just have faith that her doctors know what they are doing in this case (which is tough, because sometimes they don't know what they are doing...)

If you suspect that her docs are not giving her the care she needs, then find a different doc/hospital to bring her to if possible.
