I can't believe the attitude of the host nor the music. Its so ridiculous when you see somebody really get hurt.

What happens in the video is a huge fear I have about lifting with free weights.

Back in 1998 in public school there was a guy who blew up his physique over the term of six months. He put on a tremendous amount of muscle mass, and cut down to almost competition shape.

Long story short, while he could bench press 365 numerous times, one day he was lifting something, I forget what but it was under 20 pounds, it might have been his book bag, and SNAP ruffleruffleruffle his left pectoral rolled up.

Apparently the pain is exquisite when something like that happens. I didn't know him well enough to know him after school, but I'm pretty sure he can't lift all that much anymore, even after surgery(ies).

rep sounds like that guy mighta been using some sort of juice. I've heard of studies where chickens (or mice?) that have been injected with something (mighta been growth hormone i can't remember) show less integrity in the matrix of the muscle tissue.

As for video, this is one reason why i don't bench press. Weighted dips combined with slightly inclined dumbbell presses hit my chest really well, and neither need a spotter.

Not to mention, I've heard that bench pressing isn't a very safe exercise in terms of strain on shoulders - might be wrong tho.

I'm not going to watch it - weak stomach right now - but tell me what happened?

Bad bench?

I've seen a guy tear his pec doing a 600 pound bench, you could hear a snap as his pec tore right off of his humerus.

I was also spotting for a guy who tore his right bicep doing preacher curls - a complete detachment from the lower insertion. Rolled back up into his arm a bit it looked like. Was weird. And painful. There was nothing I could have done as a spotter, it happened so fast as he was lowering the weight slowly.

I tore my left pec years ago. Had 275 on the bar, was shooting for 3-4 reps at the time. Nobody in the gym but me and some old bastard, who I asked for a spot (horrible idea). Told him "If I get stuck during the last rep - do not wait for me or try and make me go up slow, just pull the bar up as fast as you can." Got to my 4th rep, got stuck at halfway, dumbfuck spotter was not paying close enough attention and -bam- bar is right back on my chest and I am buried. Completely - no chance of me getting the bar off my chest, and since the bar is completely down now, old fucker can't pull it off my chest, so he's yelling for some help from the people who work there. By the time two guys showed up to pull the bar off from each side, I had been buried for probably 30-40 seconds. Couldn't lift my left arm for a couple days. Had a big ugly bruise up by my armpit. Was out for about 3 months - almost every lift was excruciating - regardless of the bodypart.

over time it over builds the front shoulder stuff in such a way as to create an imbalence that can flex the shoulder out of align when doing diff movements potentcially causeing injury

Benches are a good foundation for chest mass, no matter what people say. Any exercise has potential for injury if done incorrectly, especially dumbells. If you are going to go heavy enough to really start making strength gains, you are going to need a spotter. But the heavier you go, the more essential it is that you have a good spotter. When I would do heavy dumbell presses (anything over 100 lbs) I would only do them with my brother spotting me - because he knew exactly when to help or when to just pull the dumbells up, and he was stronger than hell, so if I was getting wobbly with 120 lbs in each hand, he had no trouble pulling them up safely and making sure I didn't drop them on my face...

Not if you balance your rear delt/back training. Problem is so many people are bench whores when the start training, because all they care about is how much they can bench.

i wasn't assuming you didn't know. but you didn't mention it. so i was, because i didn't want people to get the wrong impression about the safety or efficacy of old fashioned bench presses.

but the bottom line is, on this board, many of the people might not know, hence the reason there have been about 10000000 weight training threads, as well as over 20 different people who i've given tons of individual information and advice to on everything from juicing to training to dieting.

Studies? Try every day chickens and turkeys raised by the companies who provide them to KFC, McDonalds, and the rest of the evil companies.

Check out http://www.peta.org - Chickens more often than not are fed at such an incredible rate that their bodies grow faster than their legs, so they can't even stand up.

Meet your meat.
