Client-side q3w ignore with greasemonkey & firefox

Post by inphlict »

I know some people wanted it so if you are using firefox you are in luck; there is way to block people you don’t want to hear from. This method removes the persons table and doesn’t really do anything else, so if someone posts it’s still possible to see their post if someone quotes them. It’s also possible to see the persons thread if they started it, you will simply see the next post after them. It’s possible to code a function to remove the person’s threads and even quotes, someone else can do it if they want.

First you will need to be using firefox, Second you need to install greasemonkey extension.

Greasemonkey allows you to easily run user scripts on specific pages, this is also a good way to remove ads from pages and get rid of the forward crap on ign and fileplanet. Check the site these scripts are already there.

Now to get the ignore function working, copy the text bellow into notepad or another text editor.

Code: Select all

// ==UserScript==
// @name          Quake3World Ignore
// @namespace     http://www.quake3world.com/forum/
// @description	Quake3World Ignore
// @include       http://www.quake3world.com/forum/*
// ==/UserScript==

(
function()
{ var xpe=new XPathEvaluator();
  var tr,trs;
  trs=xpe.evaluate("//tr//tr[.//b[contains('?Testoclesius?member2?',concat('?',.,'?'))]]",
                    document,null,XPathResult.UNORDERED_NODE_SNAPSHOT_TYPE,null);
  var trs2=[];
  for(i=0;i<trs.snapshotLength;++i) { trs2.push(trs.snapshotItem(i)); }
  for(i=0;i<trs2.length;++i) {
    tr=trs2[i];
    tr.parentNode.removeChild(tr);
  }
}
)();
Edit member1, member2, you can add more people, just make sure to keep it in the same format. '?member1?member2?member3?member4?member5?'

Also make sure to spell the name with the correct capitals.

Now save the file as "q3w.user.js" and make sure the type is "All files" so it doesn't have a txt extention.

Open firefox go to File > Open File and locate q3w.user.js, now go to Tools > Install User Script, a window will pop up click okay and you are done. :)

Here is an example of how it looks like:

This method works very fast, enjoy. :icon31:

Testoclesius owns you, "nerdphlict." :lol: The fact that you took time to do this (and post it) proves it.

I'm quoting this as rep's first and last worthwhile contribution to this forum.

what makes you think I'm typing to you if you aren't reading my posts? I could be talking to my good non-creepy and non-sociopathic friend Geebs.

I wasn’t sure where to ask this, so I posted it in off topic. I hope it’s alright.

Anyway I’m very frustrated at the moment, I don’t have much planed for the summer so I would like to make some money. However, I have never really held a regular job before and I’m not even sure where to start. I’m 17 at the moment but I will turn 18 in August, can you guys suggest where I can maybe look for a job (Toronto Area) or what should I do.

I don’t have a car or drivers license so delivery is out of the question. I’m looking for something around Keele/Lawrence area because that is where I live but I wouldn’t mind taking the bus to work as long as it’s not too far. I would like something part-time, I know I can’t expect anything much higher then minimum wage. Anyone know what the minimum wage at the moment is? Thanks for any suggestions or help

No but seriously, Alex, have you found a job yet? I'm really rooting for you out here, it must be tough for a 17-18 year old kid to find work with no experiance.
