Re: Terminator officially got it wrong
the comedy movie soundtrack just makes it more sinister

Re: Terminator officially got it wrong
Yeah, Yakkity Sax will play over the loudspeakers as we are ushered into the reeducation camps labeled "Meat Grinder 001" etc.

Former Senior Pentagon Official Says China is Kicking Our Ass in Artificial Intelligence

We are hurtling toward a Great Filter moment....As to the whole artificial intelligence thing, the competition between the U.S. and China points to a grim arms race for who can make the best killer robot first—the likes of which seem to make a Skynet-like future all but inevitable. It’s also worth noting that the biggest cheerleaders for this arms race are currently Google, Amazon, and other tech giants, which stand to make truckloads of cash if the government decides to splurge on new AI investments.

Jesus, it's like a joke came walking straight out of a Paul Verhoeven film
Re: Terminator officially got it wrong
Read about that one today. Was immediately reminded of "Metalhead" from Black Mirror

I mean, I’m sure this a huge advancement, but it still looks clunky as hell…

Now picture a few dozen of them, all remotely operated, storming a small town.

Re: Terminator officially got it wrong
That doesn't particularly worry me. Dudes holding guns are just as lethal as robots with guns. I worry about robots like these working autonomously.Transient wrote:Now picture a few dozen of them, all remotely operated, storming a small town.
Re: Terminator officially got it wrong
I feel like people with guns, especially separated by the distance of a monitor, are more likely to shoot before identifying a target as hostile. I wouldn't be surprised if autonomous systems were better, though I hope we never get to that point.
Re: Terminator officially got it wrong
Perhaps. On the other hand, if a misidentified hostile shoots you, all that's lost is a replaceable robot. If you're out there in the field it's your own life that's on the line.Transient wrote:I feel like people with guns, especially separated by the distance of a monitor, are more likely to shoot before identifying a target as hostile.
Re: Terminator officially got it wrong
Robots make wars too easy, too likely to happen. Every other dystopian future seems to be coming true at lightning speed, I figure the same is true for this one.

They did a good job making it look like that wasn't all scripted. I especially liked the Success Kid victory pose at the end.
All hail the robot overlords! As your supplicant, I eagerly await your orders! :ninja:

These robotics combined with ChatGPT are going to absolutely decimate the current workforce. I'm using chatGPT to write out powershell scripts I can't wrap my head around and to code in C#, Python and a few other scripting languages. I'm terrible at writing code from scratch but I can read code and I can patch code together but that involves a lot of research online, with chatGPT I just ask and it spits it out.
Once that gets combined with the same kind of software being used in Tesla's self driving 3D mapping software it's all over.
They aren't conscious mind you, but the idea of a robot doing ANY manual labor job is definitely on the table at this point.
Next 10 years are going to be wild.

I'm still not sold on visual recognition stuff yet.

Re: Terminator officially got it wrong
lol that's pretty funny but all they're doing is teaching AI how to spot humans who are actively trying to disguise themselves. Machine learning is exploding in terms of functionality at the moment and we're just at the start. I imagine I'll be seeing some impressive stuff by the end of this year, let alone 10 years from now. I mean, even in that article you posted I could not have imagined tech being able to spot humans 10 years ago. The concept of teaching an AI how to see the world seemed like a near impossible task when you were watching the DARPA races and competitions but along came machine learning and well... We're watching robots do fucking backflips and shit. Meanwhile I'm using AI to help me with my job on difficult tasks and cars are driving themselves... At this point it seems almost realistic to assume a mass produced robot can and will take over menial jobs in the very near future, along with not so menial jobs even including artistic ones.
