Is the Xbox One X the next generation console? Or is this just an offshoot of the Xbox One as the name suggests? Are they not doing generations anymore? It seems like they’ve adopted the smartphone model and have decided to release a new model every year or so. Is there any indication there’ll be a new generation?

also no not a new generation, everything is compatible for both.

there might be a ps5 and xbox356 at some point, prolly when they really need to break from the legacy architecturally speaking.

I’m not complaining that there should already be another generation. I’m just trying to understand this new business model they’ve rolled out. It use to be one new console every 6-7 years. Now they’ve got all these sub-generation consoles...

Pretty much. They had to beef up the system however which also results in slightly better graphics and frame rates on new games. I'll be getting one for the vr though.
