Between the trips from Vegas to Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon and back I put over 800 miles on our rental. The landscapes were truly amazing. It was difficult to drive because all I wanted to do is stare out the window in an attempt to take it all in.

Nice pictures Gramps. Been to Vegas and the Grand Canyon in december 2013 when it was frigging cold. Vegas was boring fake, but the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon were mighty impressive.

Nobu is great, if you go to the original Vegas location in the Hard Rock. I'll be in Vegas first weekend in November for my annual trip if anyone wants to join.

Last time I was in Vegas we stayed at Caesars and they upgraded us to the Nobu Hotel. Pretty nice, but we skipped the restaurant...

Everyone told us how great that place was... The whole time I was eating there, I was thinking how much better Taco Bell is... $400 check...

Still stay at the Rio?

Vegas is great. Not sure what people are expecting. Everything has always been fake. Its a fun place to spend a weekend every once in a while. Plenty of great places to eat, shows to see, and lots of alcohol.

Might be a cultural thing. Us Dutch are really down to earth and generally don't appreciate over-the-top kind of things. Vegas is completely over-the-top fakeness so maybe it's harder for Dutch people to appreciate than Americans.

Same, it seems like a life-sized toy city full of world landmarks so fat Americans don't have to go through the nightmare of actually visiting another country to see them.

It's great as long as you treat it as a theme park

They have a 600$ 2 day stay at a hotel I'd like to check out. You pick a theme, like Muscle cars or Exotic cars and each day they take you out and let you drive around town in various dream cars. I think on one of the days they take you to a track too. My friend went down and drove a few Ferrari's and Lambo's and it sounded like a lot of fun. I'd go for something like that, maybe play a little poker at night. That's about the only desire I have to go to Vegas.

I don't like Vegas. But the flights are always cheap, so we make it a hub to see other places. There are several national parks in the area...

This.

You have to remember most of those hotels with a theme are less than 30yrs old. New building techniques at a fraction of the cost in a place that rarely has severe weather. In another 20 years half of them will probably be stripped down and renovated like Caesars was or tore down completely. There is plenty of authenticity also, it just get overshadowed by a few big themed hotels.

I thought Vegas was cool. But definitely not my style. I don't gamble or smoke and not a big drinker. My son and I stayed at the Bellagio which was nice. But the landscapes of Arizona were what I liked best. I'll go back at some point because the wife wants to go. I'm also interested in seeing more of the place and a few of the shows, as we were only there 1 day/night.

I was there for quite a few nights...4 I think? It was ok, but like Gramps says, the real reason to go is to see the Canyon etc. It's beautiful.

My son is 16. We were there for a day. We saw a show and walked the strip. Our trip was mainly about seeing some family and the sites in Arizona. I wouldn't have brought him there for any extended period of time.

Last couple of times I didn't. Stayed at Ceasars, Hard Rock and Ballys last 3 times. Probably Ballys or Planet Hollywood this trip. Going in April for my 40th and will probably Rio it for the Nostalga.

Looks an interesting place

Me, in two weeks I am off to a little island south of Australia, Tasmania :)
I've been there before some 8 or 9 years ago. It is a beautiful and quiet holiday destination. I am currently working on an itinerary, looking at places to visit.
