Has Geoff drove off a cliff yet?
Re: What is new in your little world?
First pic was probably something like F/5.6 1/100. Second pic was 17mm F/2.8 at 25 seconds on a tripod.Whiskey 7 wrote:obsidianWhere the pictures taken with an SLR, surely not a smart phone (but I could be surprised) and if an SLR, what was the F stop and shutter speed?

Re: What is new in your little world?
Why is it so blurry if it's in a tripod?
Re: What is new in your little world?
Probably because the earth is rotating and 25 seconds is long enough to catch that fact.
Re: What is new in your little world?
cuz lens was so open it had narrow depth of focus field dummyDoombrain wrote:Why is it so blurry if it's in a tripod?

it is about time!
Re: What is new in your little world?
Relative faster speed at the Equator and less as you get closer to the poles too.mrd wrote:Probably because the earth is rotating and 25 seconds is long enough to catch that fact.
I just love the science here in Q3W

And a Wiki read for your reading pleasure

Agreed. Both shots look blurry. If you're shooting from a professional rig, there is something wrong.Doombrain wrote:Why is it so blurry if it's in a tripod?
We're off to Cuba tomorrow. I'll be shooting from my google pixel for reference.
Re: What is new in your little world?
Gwamps should teach a photography course, he could call it "Tacky and ugly phone pics of tacky and ugly things + cheap HDR filter 101".

Re: What is new in your little world?
Na, should show small lines as the view rotates. Seems to have moved slightly on the pod which does happen.mrd wrote:Probably because the earth is rotating and 25 seconds is long enough to catch that fact.
Not dissing it, it's not easy to get nice starfield shots especially when planked is trying to use focus fields for objects millions of light years away

Re: What is new in your little world?
Pretty sure it's just the rotation of the earth. 25 seconds is the max exposure minimizing trails using this focal length, though it still shows up. 20 seconds ends up being a little too underexposed. I also set the camera on a 2 second delay to ensure it's not my hand leaving the shutter release moving the camera.Doombrain wrote:Na, should show small lines as the view rotates. Again, not having a go just saying it's not sharp.obsidian wrote:

On my slr there's a mode to turn off the mirror and stop it flipping and only use the focal plain shutter. Helps reduce vibration, could be worth setting as a short cut? And keep the ISO at its lowest if you're not bothered about rotation.

Not a fan of beaches. Once you've seen five they've all the same.
Edit: but in keeping with the topic - I've just renewed my passport for the low low price of £80 and applied for my two lads first passport for the low low low price of £115.
Thought my flying with work days were over (hoped) but I'm off to visit Canon in Holland next week. Hopefully I'll be able to get my 24-104mm fixed...

Where? I know they have an office in Nootdorp (close to The Hague) which is like a 15 minute bicycle ride from where I live.Doombrain wrote:I'm off to visit Canon in Holland next week.
