dated?mjrpes wrote:trailer looks very nice. graphics are a bit dated, but i don't care in the least. lots of mythical elements that make it look like it will be very fun to play.
Next to RE4 it's one of the best looking games on the GameCube! I dare say that it stands up well next to XBox's best looking games.
I meant dated, compared to some of the trailers we've been seeing coming out of E3 and to newer games out like HL2 and Doom3. I think the graphics look fantastic on the GC, and I am long past the day where I judge a game on its graphics, especially a Zelda game.Eraser wrote:dated?mjrpes wrote:trailer looks very nice. graphics are a bit dated, but i don't care in the least. lots of mythical elements that make it look like it will be very fun to play.

Well yes, but that's the trouble with these next gen showings. Those games won't be released until 2006 or later. This new zelda is not next-gen. So for a current generation game, I think it looks pretty slick. And the visual style is quite intruiging, as it's a blend between realistic and cel shaded graphics.mjrpes wrote:I meant dated, compared to some of the trailers we've been seeing coming out of E3 and to newer games out like HL2 and Doom3. The trouble with these artistic ways of displaying a game is that people easily say that it doesn't look impressive, simply because it doesn't look realistic. Zelda: Windwaker's toony style caused a lot of people to stir and moan that it's graphics looked like shit, while if you look closely at the game, you'll see that the animations, visual distance, distance blurring effect and especially the special (particle) effects are of very high quality.
The same goes (to a lesser extent) for a game like Viewtiful Joe. Not realistic in the slightest bit, hell, it's a 2D game, but while it may not display the latest possibilities in real-time rendering, the style suits the game and is appealing to the eye. The same could also be said for a game like XIII.
This is all not aimed at you in particular mjrpes, just a comment in general
I'm not too sure about that. They say the Revolution will wow us with it's graphics. But while it may not be a hardware behemoth like the PS3, I do expect a quite significant increase in graphics quality with the Revolution (and a multiplier of 3 on raw processing power is pretty much tbh)mjrpes wrote:
BTW, it seems like we'll be seeing this level of detail in future Zelda games, seeing that the next generation Nintendo console will "only" be 3 times as powerful as the GC.
