I think it was aimed at me in some really vague attempt at humour, by implying that me asking for grandparents means I implicitly said his young children would have children of themselves at an age where the required prerequisite of having children (as in having sex) is a rather disturbing thought. Now, this is obviously such an odd thing to imply that I could only classify it as "way out there" and I think as such it's pretty clear why we can designate this attempt as a horrendously failed one.
