KILLING MACHINES
KILLING MACHINES
Hacked robots will attack humans, burgle people’s homes and KILL their pets, experts warn
Researchers claim robots could 'poison family members and pets by mixing toxic substances with food or drinks'
ROBOTS will soon be cleaning our homes, performing surgery and even building skyscrapers.
But a top security firm claims that robots – including those currently on the market – could attack humans, burgle homes and wreak havoc on a factory floor.
There have already been serious accidents including a bride-to-be who was crushed to death by a robot just two weeks before she was due to marry the love of her life.
A robot cannon also killed nine soldiers and seriously injured 14 others during a US military exercise in 2007.
But researchers at IOActive – who famously revealed how to hack a jeep remotely while it was zooming along at high speed – are concerned over how easy it is to hack a robot and make it do nasty things to humans and even their pets. Read More:

Re: KILLING MACHINES
People kill people, even when it's a robot doing the job for them.
Fact is robots are the future of humankind. Google's AI is creating new AI right now as we speak though so that's pretty interesting stuff. Not sure how far we are from an actual conscious AI though, or if it's even possible although I'm on the side of the fence that it is possible, just not yet.
Edit: I should also add that it's not humans you should be worried about machines killing. It's your jobs. I feel like my job is somewhat safe for now though as it'll probably morph into troubleshooting the machines that have taken over every one elses jobs.

I viewed an item on mini-guns the other day and came across automated perimeter defense topic here https://www.wired.com/2007/06/for_years_and_y/Κracus wrote:THey're already out there, otherwise known as drones.
Imagine if they were self propelled

Re: KILLING MACHINES
Oh aye, they've had those for years. South Korea has similar automated guns along the DMZ that are more impressive, rumor has it they're not remote controlled but actually autonomous.Whiskey 7 wrote:I viewed an item on mini-guns the other day and came across automated perimeter defense topic here https://www.wired.com/2007/06/for_years_and_y/
If you're interested there's some youtube vids floating around from Syria of jury rigged remote controlled guns, both regime forces and some rebel factions have been experimenting with these systems. Their budget version is basically a go pro camera rigged to a light machine gun with a firing mechanism of some sort, but they appear to work.

Re: KILLING MACHINES
A bit related; the Iraqi security forces have now started to employ the same DIY kamikaze drones as IS. It's an interesting time for these semi automated systems... a battlefield is always good for innovation, weeds out the crap ideas and rewards the clever ones real fast. Also, weaponized drones are fucking terrifying when you consider the possible terror possibilities - read a bit about how the newest trend is to link up to 5 systems to one set of controls, so they'll fly in formation. You don't even need explosives that way, just head over to the nearest passenger jet that's ready for takeoff and bam, everyone's completely fucked.
