One reason I might have to buy a XBox360....
Embedded in the OS is a little something called "Neon".
Neon is basically a light synth made by the utterly fantastic, and slightly loopy Jeff Minter.
Head on over to the newly re-vamped http://www.llamasoft.co.uk where you can find movies and screenshots of Neon in action.

As far as I understand, it's a little more than that, offering interactivity as well as just producing images from audio input.
There's also some 3D stuff going on as well, so I'm guessing it's going to look a bit funkier than the WMP visualisations.
I'm DLing the big vid at the moment and will let you know what I think when I've watched it...

and that's STILL enough for you to warrant a purchase on a 360? tell me you're joking.Mat Linnett wrote:As far as I understand, it's a little more than that, offering interactivity as well as just producing images from audio input.

Just watch the damn video.
It's a bit more than just a variation on crappy WMP visualisations.
There's a lot of pixel-shaded goodnes being chucked around there, with very little repetition, and stunning, vibrant colour shifts.
And Juggs, I don't know when you decided you were going to become a troll, but it doesn't suit you.
You just come off as though you're just bitterly fishing for luckies.
I didn't say it would be the ONLY reason I would buy a 360. I said it would be ONE reason.
Neon's a fantastic toy to have thrown in with a state-of-the-art console, and just makes it that little bit more desirable.
It's a nifty bonus feature, made by a genuine gaming legend.

wasn't trolling. just seems like a lame reason out of the multitude of other reasons to get a 360. isn't it still a gaming box? as far as i can tell, that milkdrop looking "neon" is a screensaver while audio plays. weird that you, a gamer, would give a big whoop about that.Mat Linnett wrote:Just watch the damn video.

Just get hold of NI Reaktor there's a good few 8-bit synths available for that, or if money's no object pick up a SID station from Elektron.Mat Linnett wrote:Embedded in the OS is a little something called "Neon".
