Oil Painting of a Video Game Scene
Oil Painting of a Video Game Scene
Ok, so I'm going to attempt to do an oil painting using Tim's Vermeer technique.
My goal is to do a video game scene and I just went out to buy the supplies and now I'm trying to think of what I should do. I have 2 7 x 14 canvases I'll be painting on and I'm trying to think up some ideas of what to draw. I'm thinking I might even capture a screen from GTA V or some other game I own and paint that. If you've got any clever ideas let me know, I may try that instead. I actually have some experience using this method as I replicated illustrations when I was younger, I got pretty good at it but I've never dabbled in color or with oil paints.
I'll be working on setting up the vermeer device tonight.

Well... you might be able to! This one is going to be a test to see how difficult (I expect it to be hard) it is vs time it takes etc...
If I can do this one relatively well, I was thinking of taking requests. I was even thinking of doing things like meeting people in game, taking a screenshot and then doing an oil painting of the screenshot I took of the client which would be kinda neat. This is all depending on how good it looks though which I'm at this stage expecting it to look like utter crap so low expectations for now.

I'd personally go for something from a game like Ico.
Re: Oil Painting of a Video Game Scene
I think I might be going the one below. On Friday's I typically play poker with friends but I go early and we jam out to some Trials Fusion before the game. It's become somewhat a tradition. That same guy recently started painting which got me to buy the canvas and paints I got today. So as an homage I think I might give this one to him when I'm done.

edit: I do like the tetris one though tbh...

Actually plained that wasn't me. I haven't done anything mario/zelda or video game in general but I do draw illustrations.

That ones mine and don't mind the people at the bottom I never finished them. I did that in about 20 minutes so I could see how difficult it would be to color something via photoshop. The drawing was done by hand and scanned in though. I have much better stuff I've just never scanned it.
But yeah, never done oil painting before so we'll see what happens.
Edit: I should also add that the technique I'm using doesn't require any painting skills. It's mostly about being consistent and picky about details.

Re: Oil Painting of a Video Game Scene
Started the painting after much setting up. That first time the brush touches the canvas is probably the worst moment. I'm going to be taking pics and documenting the whole process so I'll post them up here when I have enough to show off. One thing I feel strongly about is that I do not want to outline the painting prior to applying the paint. It's a bit of a contrast and not what you'd usually do but I'm hoping it'll create an effect on the final image.
