Yeah transgenders are fine, they still tick the male or female box. I'm just weirded out by people that insist gender should be a free text field on your registration form. And ultimately I don't care what someone identifies as, but it's become fashionable to take such things really totally serious and it's elevated to some kind of international injustice that people are "forced" to think of gender as a binary thing. I believe this affects so few people that the amount of attention it is getting is disproportionate. So to drive this home, I'm explicitly calling gender fluidity out as something abnormal. It's fine if you feel that way, but don't act like it should be the norm.

Too many people from the trans community take it as a personal slight when they hear someone resist changing their vocabulary. One wrong pronoun and suddenly you're transphobic. They should save their outrage for the true bigots out there.

Glaciers are key icons of climate change and global environmental change. However, the relationships among gender, science, and glaciers – particularly related to epistemological questions about the production of glaciological knowledge – remain understudied. This paper thus proposes a feminist glaciology framework with four key components: 1) knowledge producers; (2) gendered science and knowledge; (3) systems of scientific domination; and (4) alternative representations of glaciers. Merging feminist postcolonial science studies and feminist political ecology, the feminist glaciology framework generates robust analysis of gender, power, and epistemologies in dynamic social-ecological systems, thereby leading to more just and equitable science and human-ice interactions.
