Oh,and Κracus mk5's are known for that relay... It's reletivly common... Yours didn't fail entirely else you'd get nothing when you flicked the key on.

Fixed a few of those to date, two specifically had no interior power to them and where unable to start due to the cluster not being able to report the anti-theft status ( immo )

Yeah, I got to a VW Mechanic for most of the things I'm hesitant to try, like brakes, rotors which I just had done and when I asked about the electrical issues he said I'd need a new blower motor, resistor and that it was going to be a pretty expensive job to fix. I'm kinda pissed because all he does is work on VW's, he should have known what's up or he did and he was just trying to fleece me. Either way my confidence in his abilities are pretty much null at this point and I still need to fix the emergency brake which I'm hesitant to try doing myself. (cable snapped)

Normally the symptoms are closer to what i was explaining for them to think the relay tbh, So i wouldn't be so quick in assuming he was trying to fleece you.

Changing out the handbrake cables is a bit of a lengthy job, but far from difficult.

The issue is when you need to work around the exhaust, followed by removing the center console... heh, usually i tie a string on the end of the old cables, pull them through from under and tie it to the new cable and pull it in form the interior.

If the car's still draining the new battery try the fuse pulling trick to see if you can narrow it down. ~14v sounds about right when charging, I guess different cars put out different amounts

Might even be something silly like the light in your boot never going out or something .
