Why do you care if Q4 goes mainstream on the xbox? There's a large enough id following to ensure any future sequels (if need be) so why worry about it?
What I care about is that it plays as well as Q3A so that when my friends and I finally get around to getting the console I can pop in Q4 and be like "alright you halo bitches time to play a real fps."

The only thing i care about is how good it plays online, im not that big of a graphics geek, i dont have to be because ALL games that are getting released today looks good.. it wasent like back in 98-99 when you could see huge differances on game graphics from one game to another... so im just worried about netcode and online playability because thats what i play with 99% of the games i buy.o'dium wrote:
Anyways, what do you think? Do you think Quake 4, no matter how good/bad it may be, will be a game people will pick up and look at the back of the box and say "ugh?" because of everything else that they have been treated to?
I've turned down D3 so it runs better online and give a small boost on frames etc... just to have a better advantage against a guy that has everything maxed out and get a laggy mouse and fps drops... i do this with most games i play online, if its SP i max it out.. but mp its all about feel and smooth gameplay for me.
Trouble is, much of the stuff that makes Q3A great involves having a keyboard and mouse.
TBH, id REALLY need to get over the "simplistic is best" approach. Having a simple user interface to a game and avoiding all that RPG bullshit people always try to put in shooters? Good. Having a game that's so simple, there's no variety? Bad

Haven't you seen Doom 3 on Xbox? The console has already reached it's technical limits. And MS dosen't have much of a choice really, but to launch a new system. Since Sony and Nintendo are also launching soon (2005 is possible, or early 2006).Jackal wrote:OK myabe what I said was a bit of an exageration but we really havn't seen them flex the xbox's muscle at all yet. I mean I like video games but I'm sure as fuck not willing to spend over $500 on a console every 4 years just so I can keep up with the nerd wave.
Granted, some people will be but I'm sure a lot of people aren't willing to bend that way.
One of my favorite games was Quake 2, so a continuation on that story is some thing that interests me very much. I will definetaly be buying it, but only for PC, not for console. Im not a fan of FPS on consoles, halo is fun and all, but I still cant stand those stupid sticks over a keyboard and mouse. Granted it doesnt look as good as many other games that are coming out, but like said above, its the name that will sell it. If some spoiled kid that doesnt know about it, and is buying other games just for the better graphics, then its his loss. (well if Quake IV is good that is

I would mention that. I would also mention the weapons look like shit, and that it really doesn't look or feel like Quake 2 any more.dzjepp wrote:Oh and why hasn't anyone commented on the X360 teaser footage of QIV... I mean, mechs? what the fuck?
But then i would get told to shut the fuck up because i'm wrong and quake 4 will own, because willits said they are giving MP 5 extra mins this time.
go figure.
Well if you asked me, mtv MIGHT of mistake some other mech game and slapped the qiv label on accident. They also said id software instead of raven, and well mtv knows fuckall about games.
Not to mention it looked completely shit. The mag scans looked pretty damn good, but that mech shit is just ugh.

No, you would be told to STFU because you're making large assumptions, which is the main reason people usually say it.o'dium wrote:I would mention that. I know you have an experienced technical eye, but John Carmack himself couldn't tell how a game is going to "feel" from 5 screenshots and a 10 second clip this early in the game's development.
