Oscar Pistorius murder case in South Africa

Post by Whiskey 7 »

On the news last night an item on the Oscar Pistorius murder case in South Africa and I am thinking your opinions either way would be of interest.

I recon he is good for it so how say you?
Oscar Pistorius faces the prospect of serving at least 15 years in prison after a South African court convicted him of murder over the death of his girlfriend.

Last year a judge gave Pistorius a five-year jail sentence for "culpable homicide" over the shooting death of Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day in 2013, but prosecutors on appeal argued that the "Blade Runner" should be convicted of murder.

Judging from the poll so far Q3W would make a good jury

Is this the retard who "accidentally" shot his girlfriend when he thought she was "breaking into" his house?

Yes, I think most of us are a diverse and pretty level headed descent people in the main.

This poll was prompted by the latest hews on the case and after I saw a television special here on the evidence against him around the time of his trial.

Not sure if you have the show where you are but is '60 Minutes', a current affairs type show. It painted a gruesome picture of what happened from forensic evidence.

I kept a pretty close eye on the case as it was unfolding but I can't remember much of the specifics anymore :/

I know the investigation / prosecution was a joke, they fucked up the crime scene - they removed the door and walked over it before leaving it in someones office then lost and missed evidence. They even got a forensic expert that was ripped apart in the dock because he based most of his findings on internet research :dork:

I was shocked by the outcome though, if only for the fact that he shot with the intent to kill someone based on nothing but his word that he woke up startled. At the very least he meant to kill someone and there wasn't much evidence indicating that he had reason to believe that it was an intruder with a shit ton of stuff not adding up (I didn't mean to shoot (4 times) / I shot because I heard the door).

It's also insane that he could do something like that and after serving less than a year in prison would've been released on house arrest.

He shot through the door 4 times. It doesn't matter who was on the other side, that's just absolutely careless and he deserves to go to jail for murder.

The way I see it, you don't shoot unless you're sure you know what you're shooting at. If you're wrong, you pay the price for being wrong, so don't be wrong. End case.

Life in South Africa is scary ..period.
Although I voted guilty I understand how scared people are and fear can make people do very stupid things as in this case.
Violent home invasions and car jackings in South Africa occur at an alarming frequency. Our company house in South Africa was robbed twice while we slept.
In our case the robbers were illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe.
