Well, elsewhere in the world you can purchase fireworks and enjoy in the celebrations. Here they banned the public sale of fireworks years ago.

Yes some silly people suffered injuries and burns over the years we had access but really, to prohibit something because some misuse is simply unjust IMO.

I remember so vividly in my childhood years buying firecrackers and playing all sorts of 'games' with them. The fireworks ranged from 'tom thumbs' to 'triple bungers' in the explosive category down to 'sparklers' & roman candles. We can't forget the rocket type fireworks either.

I remember vividly, launching some during the day and horizontal (setup on an old wooden washing trolley/pick below).

Trajectory was low and fast after ignition. I still see the explosive burst when it hit a gum tree maybe 100metres away. It was beautiful I think they were called 'starburst' and were something like you see in public (aerial) displays these days.

Some celebrate Halloween and I don't, but I really miss the fun with firecrackers

No and not in the experience of this Australian. That might have happened in the deep south and the injuries are, correctly, were (because fireworks have been banned for years) usually to unsupervised children, some lost fingers.

Another memory I have was making hand grenades. We'd place a bunger in a glass jam jar vertically and around it we'd stuff small gravel tightly. It looked impressive. The test was to light and throw of course and this we did over a large area of water. The effect as you'd imagine, marvelous

That play experience was probably 50 years ago and we lived 'beyond the black stump'.

So he jumped with a noose around his neck in such a way to break his neck. Suicide perhaps by definition, but only just.
