CBS Television Studios announced today it will launch a totally new Star Trek television series in January 2017. The new series will blast off with a special preview broadcast on the CBS Television Network. The premiere episode and all subsequent first-run episodes will then be available exclusively in the United States on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service.
The next chapter of the Star Trek franchise will also be distributed concurrently for television and multiple platforms around the world by CBS Studios International.
Alex Kurtzman will serve as executive producer for the new Star Trek TV series. Kurtzman co-wrote and produced the blockbuster films Star Trek (2009) with Roberto Orci, and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
colour me a shade of unhopeful, tbh...
I blame Abrams and Lindelof for that, apparently there was quite a few fans of the series and previous writers for the show giving input. I reckon (hope) that they were forced into the direction they went in by those 2 bells.
I think the most important question atm though is.... what canon is it ?

I don't think so, Riker was also trying to pimp his idea at one point.

I mean to say they don't have enough confidence in it to show it on TV. The show will be crippled from the get-go because fewer people will be watching. Executives still rely on the Nielsen ratings. They're still thinking like dinosaurs in that regard.
