Making a bootable memorystick?
I have one of those tiny toshiba portege PCs with no drives, my USB CD-ROM was dropped down a flight of stairs, but I never used it and never ordered a new one.
Now I need to reinstall XP, is it possible to make my 1gig USB memory stick bootable? and links or suggestions?
Thanks :icon30:

Is data recoverable from solid state memory? Can I erase data off such memory and be assured it's irrecoverable?

Still having trouble finding it...
I want the memory stick to be like the bootable XP CD.
I would like to place the XP CD on there then boot from the stick, since my CD drive is busted...

Amidy, do you believe the program G}{ posted renders erased data truly irrecoverable?

That's what I thought. Short of destroying and liquifying (melting) the HD platters, this may be the best shot.

That who posted?Massive Quasars wrote:Amidy, do you believe the program G}{ posted renders erased data truly irrecoverable?
Anyways there's different methods of erasing the data.
I use method #2 for erasing data. It'll write 1's and 0's to that file with 7 passes. This method is what the Department of Defense uses.
The Gutmann method is the person who thought up of the idea and basically was a little overprotective on erasing data hence the 35 passes.

Yeah, I do 7 passes using Spybot's Secure shredder. #2 is satisfactory for me, #1 seems almost ideal (albeit time consuming). Much appreciated Frag.FragaGeddon wrote:Anyways there's different methods of erasing the data.

Haven't played with Spybot that much.
With Eraser it adds a context menu so you just right click the file and select erase.
