meanwhile a cop in houston is murdered, it looks like a 'retaliation' killing in response to all the black people getting killed by cops.

Between what's reported on national news or what's reported on local news, I feel like it is an execution each day. A part of me still holds it all in disbelief.

Mental Illness and overall stability is very much so ignored here. Stricter gun laws don't seem to work in the states. Take a look at handgun crime in Chicago (IL) and the laws there. When you compare that to states that are much more lax (say Utah or Nevada) the correlation doesn't seem to hold.

It's not about the differences in the law, it's about availability. It's not hard to get a gun in the U.S.

Canada has a shit ton of guns, too, but their homicide rates aren't nearly as absurd as the States. Conversely, Australia had a gun buyback program a few years back and gun-related deaths have been on the decline ever since.

Gun laws, mental illness, and availability aren't the only factors. Poverty and subjugation play a role too. It's a complicated issue without a simple answer.

Killing someone with a gun is really fucking easy.
Take away ready access to guns, and less people will get killed. You don't see "knife massacres" in schools making headlines..

always worth a repost.
