How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
Curious what you guys tend to go with.

Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
That sure as hell seems to be the trend. I almost wanna pour one out on the curb for AMD
Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
AMD only competes with Intel at the low end, so this isn't a fair comparison.
AMD vs Nvidia is more interesting, though

Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
Dayum...I thought I'd get at least ONE amd vote.
This is good information though. Since I'm going through the trouble to rebuild/optimize Q3map2, at work I want to perform the most good for the most people, and it looks like Intel wins hands down. My map compiler at home is AMD based, but it's served me well and allowed me to do lots of stupid things in Radiant I simply couldn't do before. As it stands though....If anyone is interested in lending a hand, I could compile some binaries (linux only, sorry) and if anyone wants to try them on their intel machine, It'd be great to get a range of performance identified across lots of different chips.
Of course at work I have a mountain on Xeons with a big Cray sticker on it, but those of you who have i5 or i7...or whatever, I'd like to see if any of my optimizations help your compile times.
I figured out yesterday that the benchmark that Ghost put together a few years back doesn't compile reliably on the latest version of q3map2, so I'll be working out a new reference map.
Would anyone on an Intel linux machine be willing to help test out modified versions of q3map2?

Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
I've been using AMD for years. At the price range I feel like I get a pretty good deal. It does everything I want it to without problems. Currently I have an FX 8350 8 core and it plays everything I throw at it. I don't see how buying a much more expensive Intel chip will benefit me.
Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
I was always an AMD man but tried Intel on my last PC build, January 2008
so just might be time to upgrade
I am still running an Intel S775 Core 2 Q6600 Quad-Core CPU

Intel + nvidia = win
Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
My last desktop CPU was AMD, but that was back in 2003. Since then both laptops I bought were Intel, and I'm looking around for new desktop hardware as well which will almost certainly be an Intel/nVidia combo
Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
Freesync is AMD's trump card.

Just buy a cheaper Intel chip dumbo.... It's still faster than whatever AMD crap...

Not until it can compete with 144Hz G-Sync.DTS wrote:Freesync is AMD's trump card.
Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
My last few have been Intel. Shame, as AMD were great back in the day.

yup, i'm still kickin' a Phenom II 2core @ 3.2ghz unlocked to a Phenom II 4core B55 @ 3.7ghz on airPhoeniX wrote:My last few have been Intel. Shame, as AMD were great back in the day.

i always figure it has some upside

it is about time!
Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
Price wise, I'm just not seeing it at comparable speeds and benchmarks.scared? wrote:Wow what an ignorant moron...Scourge wrote:I've been using AMD for years. It looks like the Intel i5-4690K goes for about $240 and scores 7758 on Passmark's cpu benchmark
Scoring similarly on Passmark's cpu benchmark at 7774 the AMD FX-8310 Eight-Core sells for about $112 on TigerDirect.

Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
Fuck no... The 4690 kicks the shit out of the 8310....
Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
Yeah, it actually is closer to mine in benchmarks and still around $100 more.
Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
It's destroys that AMD in games... If u like to do other gay shit with ur pc then go ahead and get the gaymd....poorie...
Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?

Re: How many of you go with Intel over AMD?
There was a trend for years where ATi cards had significant issues with high profile game after high profile game, which to me diluted their brand. After the AMD acquisition, my impression of AMD suffered for it. Performance aside (where nVidia and Intel handily beat AMD), they have an unattractive image, and I don't have a lot of good faith toward them.
This line only remake is total rubbish I've ever seen!!! Fuck off!!! --CZghost
