Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement

Post by Captain »

The secrecy, lack of media coverage or social awareness, and Obama's undemocratic fast-track approach on what will essentially put international copyright, pharmaceutical, and agricultural laws directly in the hands of Washington's corporate lobbyists is nothing short of terrifying.

It's time to seriously consider moving if you're in any of the countries signing this NAFTA on steroids. Bills C-51 and C-24 are further incentive to leave the Empire of Harper for good.
Maude Barlow, chairperson of the Council of Canadians: “Once again the Harper government is forcing Canada into a major trade negotiation that will only benefit the 1 per cent. Like the Canada-EU deal, the Trans-Pacific Partnership could force Canada to change its drug policies, its copyright policies, its environmental and public health rules — all without going through the normal parliamentary process. “

Judit Rius Sanjuan, manager of the Doctors Without Borders U.S. Access Campaign: “If passed in its current form, you can say goodbye to patent terms that expire at 20 years, and hello to even longer monopolies and sky-high drug prices. Governments of every TPP country: if you ever try to challenge a patent or control drug prices, get ready to be sued for hundreds of millions by pharmaceutical companies.”

Sigh. It's like there's at least one of these ludicrous corporate backing agreements every year now.

That'd be the least of my worries if Finland joins NATO.

With the way the centre right-wing coalition is rising to power, it's looking like a "when".

It would be in Finland's best interest to denounce NATO and deal with Russia directly, although severing ties with the US would lead to the same state-sponsored terrorist attacks that have been used to bend other European countries to their will. I can't blame Russia for interpreting Finland's support for NATO as a hostile action, they're not going to ignore the fact that Finland can become a buffer zone for the US to launch attacks from. Either way, my homeland is fucked.
