Half-Life 2: Update now on Steam

Graphical update for HL2 now available on steam for free, requires original game.
I think I'll give it a shot for nostalgia's sake.

Hmm yeah, there's no doubt it looks "better" but the changes seem fairly subtle. Guessing they're trying to keep it as close to the original as possible though without putting shadows everywhere to show them off.

Just search for it in the Steam Store, you'll find it.

It is fanmade by a single guy who worked for 3 years on the mod. I don't know about his background, wether he's great at coding or whatever but I got intrigued. Haven't tested it yet.

Steam is pretty usefull, with lots of stuff. There is this innovative new game called "Quaker Life" for example which is a free to play modern FPS! Give it a try!

I don't think so. The HL2 Episodes already use an updated version of the Source engine (bloom, improved AI, etc).
