What a crock of shite (Halo 2 PC)

Post by o'dium »

So, Microsoft finally confirmed what we were all guessing today. Halo 2 is indeed coming to the PC soon.

The only problem is, theres a slight catch.

Its a Windows Vista exclusive title.

WHAT IN THE FUCK?

hahahahahaha
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

Well yeah, thats what I was thinking. If they are gonna give us all this "Killer App", a game that we NEED to upgrade to play, at least give us a game we never completed 3 years ago... Halo 2 is old, and its nowhere near as good as Halo 1 anyway. Sure it will look nice with a decent res, but damn, its OLD.

This is kind of a kick in the balls. Ill end up getting vista at some stage but not just for a game lol. Christ, they may as well of let Gearbox do it...

You might not be worried about the impact of an old game like this being vista only, but it's a hint an microsoft's larger strategy of making their future PC software titles lack backwards compatability.

Once Vista is out you can pretty much assume that every Microsoft-published title for the PC will be Vista exclusive.

I still fail to see why...

Or...

Is this something to do with that whole DX bollocks? i.e. Vista is MADE for DX, and opengl games will run a lot slower...?

They wont be winning any customers that way...

more than likely it's just greed, but vista's going to be a hell of a lot stricter on how applications are installed, set up, that sort of thing. there are a ton of apps that will need changing/fixing for them to work.

heard one of the developers at work talking about msi 3 installers for vista. hope they're not as much of a botched abortion as the current msi tech.

I'm actually looking forward to Vista. I find that it's mostly people who have warezed XP who are complaining, foreseeing the hustle of warezing a new OS.

Isn't Vista better protected against warezing?

Also, is it slow as fuck because of all the pretty effects? It better be able to run lean if we're collectively forced to upgrade to it.

Playing around, you know. Exploring, customizing, the fancy new 3D-accelerated GUI, things like that.

Aren't you running a beta or some pre-release version? How goes it?

i had it running on my brother's box. of course it's got its share of bugs, but it was....different. i'm not into flashy desktops with a bunch of transparencies, so it was on there for about two days. didn't even scratch the surface, sorry.

actually MS wants you to purchase Vista so you feel more secure.

Windows chief Jim Allchin says:
"Safety and security is the overriding feature that most people will want to have Windows Vista for," the co-president of Microsoft's platform, products and services division said in an interview with CNET.co.uk's sister site News.com. "Even if they are not into home entertainment or in any of the specialty areas, they are just going to feel safer and more secure by using it."
how about securing your latest OS, hm?

people lost hope in their last OS so they decided to begin anew. which will only mean theyll overlook a different set of leaks.
XP works more than fine as it is right now, theres no reason for a new OS (like there was from 98 to 2000).
