Well the front end of the 15 year old Toro mower broke off today. So I am currently shopping for a good walk behind self-propelled mower. Something in the range of $200-$500. I have a small yard, but it is sloped like a funnel and a bitch of a terrain with many different grasses, weeds, and whatever else growing in it. Can anyone suggest a good walk behind mower and or company that makes good walk behind mowers?

I've always known Craftsmen to be good, but mine had lasted me 9 years, so I have no idea if the new ones are any good or if they turned to shit.

Anything with a Honda engine setting on it.
Many companies use their engines, but Honda also makes full mowers. :icon14:

there all equell once the blade hits something solid and the shaft gets bent.

harder to chuck a shaky/vibratie/crappy cutting mower when it costs 2-3 times a normal mower

That's why you keep your yard clean.

Not if you're mowing your own yard, no.

I have a friend who lives in cornwall and their yard consists of grass with enourmous granite boulders buried into the ground. They're a couple of tons each and go real deep into the ground. Most of them are just slightly raised up from the soil level.

Suffice to say he's proficient at mower repair.

500US is way too fucking much for a lawnmower.

it would even be too much for a self propelled pushmower.

a craftsmen self propelled with the 6-7HP honda engine is what you want.

You've never purchased a good mower.

i have a 6hp(honda) craftsmen with the bigger blade(cant remember exactly).

i think i payed less than 400$canadian.

hmm maybe 500US for a self propelled does sound about right, maybe a tad steep. different countries though, maybe the demand is higher in the US so prices are a bit more.

Honda engines actually work and continue working for a long time.

Briggs, while quit good, has let us down far too often for us to buy another one anytime soon.

Has Briggs and Straton gone down in quality? The engine on the broken mower is a B&S and it still runs. The main reason I ask is that the only Honda engines offered here are 5.5 HP while the B&S are 6.5 HP
