Quake will play np after you install glquake or other client.

btw, does anyone know how to run Quake II at custom resolution? I'd like to get 1280x1024, but there is only 1280x960 as an alternative.

1280x960 looks more proper to me, but thats the ratio I run on destop so I'm used to it.

Yeah, cant stand it... But Q2E added custom widthxheight so if you ARE a freak with a shitty monitor you can play at 675x358 if you want.

well, my LCD runs natively at 1280x1024, so it wouldn't make any sense to use 1280x960

You need to delete opengl32.dll from the quake directory, it only causes problems and crashes the game on modern video cards also in order to get higher resolutions you need to make a shortcut with glquake and add this in the target area.
-width 1024 -bpp 32
