just got an emai lthat they have boosted my line to 2Mbps. getting torrent speeds of about 100kbps, but the speed test at adsl guide, comes in at my downstream being 959kbps?

am i missing the point here?

Don't whine. I'm on shitty bt and my max dl rate is 55kbs.

2meg will never reach that high a downlaod speed. General rule of thumb is divide the speed by 8. So 2meg should only be able to get a max down rate of about 256kb/sec.

oh, no, no. i'm not whinin, just with them saying its a 2mb line, and that speed test thingy comes out at under 1, from my interpretation.

It could be that your line can't handle 2Mb speeds. How far are you from your exchange?

now, i dont know how far, but, bt say my exchange is 'willowcroft' and a road of that name is about700yards away from me

Yeah, a lot of people "back in the day" could never reach 56kb speeds, even though they were on 56k. Some people got 48, some 32 even.

Its normal for your line to not reach its limit, its just one of those things based on many factors.

I'm on 4meg atm (going to 10meg soon woo!) and i would probably only get 3.8 or something daft. Ill try it.
