How do I tell what the max. speed of RAM my motherboard can handle?

I know it's got a PC2100 stick in there, and was wanting to put a PC3200 512 stick in.

think pc2100 is about as good as it gets there...don't think you can mix memory speeds.. Id check your mobo's website for specs.

If your board supports both, it may throttle the 3200 down, since they usually are installed in pairs.

If you put in a stick of 3200 while having 2100, your memory will only go at 2100 because you have that other stick in. In order to make it 3200 then you will need to have all ram 3200.

You will have more ram but it's pointless to get 3200 if you have 2100, unless you want to replace the 2100.

I would recommend bulking up with another 512 of 2100 at the least. You might be able to get an extra 1Gb stick instead because it's slower?

Goin with another 512 of 2100, which, for some reason, costs the same as 512 of 3200.

if it's the same price, I think you may be as well buying the faster one.

It's my understanding that it will simply throttle back to the slower speed gracefully.

Don't hold me to that tho.
