Scariest movie you have seen?

What is it?

It's a hard one to call, because some films that scared the shit out of me when I was a kid, now seem pretty lame when watched, Like Halloween. I also find that it's certain scenes that scare me rather than a film as a whole. Has anyone seen Pet Cemetary? Shit film, but the scene with the wierd sister on the bed calling "Rachel", scared the fuck out of me. That was years ago though, and if I watched that scene now, I would probably laugh.

Also, The Gudge, which was a truly shit film had scenes that shit me up big time. That wierd blue Asian chick, that aint right. Recently I think the film that scared me the most and had me on the edge of my seat was a film called The Descent. It's a british film from the guy that did Dog Soldiers. If you get a chance to see it, do so. It's excellent and really scary.

So what movie scared you?

The Exorcist was pretty scary to me. Rosemary's Baby also had a terrifying atmosphere.

hmm...Aliens was pretty tense, the first time I watched it.

The jump-out-of-chair must be.....when they discover that the sloth-body in Seven isn't quite dead yet. Eek.

I haven't watching a scary movie in a long time. Movies that scare the viewer have more to do with how willing the viewer is to believe what he’s seeing is real, and I just don’t do that anymore; I know I’m watching a film. Therefore, slasher movies and things like "The grudge" and "The Ring" don’t scare me is the slightest. Watching a badly dressed dead actor doesn't scare me, nor does silly "jump" moments; They just annoy me.

Things that will however are things that mess with your mind and force you to think, or to understand. Those kind of films have a greater tendency to mess with my head. These are, for the most part, "psychological thrillers", and they will cause me some kind of discomfort. I like films that I have to think about a little while watching, these give me the biggest rush that you are talking about.

That said, I think the last time a horror film really scared me was many moons ago when I was a wee lad, And channel 4 showed Ringu and Ringu 2 for the first time. It was about 12pm, the house was empty, and it was just me there. I watched them thinking it would just be boring pap, and it turned out it was really, really fucking good. Really shit me up back then as well, I remember going to sleep with the TV on later because it was messing with my head :olo: the latest Ring film from America did nothing but fuck me off. How they could change something so much just for the "masses" for a crying shame.

So, its been a while since a classic "horror" film has spooked me like you say. Because of that, and most of them being cheese these days I tend to watch more that will mess with my head.

will have to check that out, i liked dog soldiers.

think the last thing that scared me was 'willy wonka and the chocolate factory', where they're on the boat and gene wilder's singing to himself - but i was quite shitfaced at the time.

these days something has to be part of the drama to scare me i think, concepts aren't enough. that whole mtv style of film-making has murdered scary concepts.

The Ring ( US Version )

i love how the movie only used suspense for most of the time and then beat you right into the face with the final scene.

That's a great in-depth analysis of how scary movies work. Too bad it's complete bullshit. You know how you get "annoyed" at the jumpy parts? That's actually you being "annoyed" at how much of a pansy those parts make you feel when you jump.
Sounds to me like you're terrified of horror movies and you just made up some crapass rationale to justify it.

do yourself a favor, and get Ju-On: The Grudge (the original japanese movie). a lot darker than the US version, and isnt ruined by the hollywood "boo" scares either.

and the fucking house doesnt burn down >:E

Really? Thats fantastic.

I suppose you were one of those people terrified of playing Doom 3 as well, because things just "popped" out at you?

I never even played it, but only because I was terrified of what my computer would do if I tried to run it.

It's funny, but I could post the exact same message Pauly made and I'd still be telling the truth. That specific part in Pet Cemetary really did scare the crap out of me as a kid.

There was a scene in the movie "Dr. Giggles" where dude skills his wife then sticks his psycho-murderer son in her "womb" and sews her back up so the kid could get away. That troubled me somewhat as a kid.

The Duel scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.

Can't really think of a recent flick that really scared me. Sixth Sense had a couple of pretty tense moments when I saw it at the cinema.

Good list saturn. I just saw the old lady crawling on the ceiling in Exorcist III. That's spooky as fuck too.
