Doctors of Q3W: vertebrae Q.

The oldest daughter of my moms fiancé has been in a car crash, and she has two broken or damaged vertebraes in some way. One of them is the fifth from below I think, but she still has feeling in her legs, but they need to operate on her.
I don't have any more spesific information, but what I'm wondering about is if this is a risky operation or not. Is there a big chance that she can loose all feeling from below that point or?
I'm just wondering, cause I'm really anxious about it. She's about the most active and kind person I know and she hates staying inside sitting on her ass, so it would be so sad if she got stuck to a wheelchair
