Hardware's not all that's going to cost more as the next generation of video games begins. Most major publishers have quietly acknowledged that major games will cost $59.99, a $10 jump over current prices.

I bet PC game makers will start this trend as well, if new xbox games are going to be 60 bucks a pop..

I very much doubt it. Console games have always been more expensive anyway because of the amount of money that needs to be spent to play pc games.

I very much doubt that PC prices will change. Also note the word Major games.

That probably means the mainstream shit every jarhead and his dog buys. e.g Halo, Madden and GTA games.

Higher polycounts + more complex game engines = higher development costs

Rubbish. Not enough to have that big of an impact on the number of games being developed and the final cost to the consumer.

Ask Mark Rein or Cliffy B.

Console games cost less to create do to R&D is already done and the system is set, PC games have much more R&D due to hardware and software differences and issues, so I would suggest to you it would the exact opposite.

developement cost + cost of wages +running the building your in, electricity supply and ammenities

more complex the game more people you need

more complex the game more people = more ammenities used within the building.

more to it than just the dev cost of the actual game

console games require a lot more optimizing and betatesting than pc games tohugh, since it has to run on the same hardware and they cant be patched

Larger teams and the same total dev time means more management is required to keep things going and organised.

It adds up. In the end, if the publishers are risking more cash on developing titles, they need to be assured they'll get their money back and a decent profit, since that's all they really care about...

(i.e. its just a fucking excuse for the publishers to make more cash)

Shut up you poor fucking babies.

I paid $73 for the flawless SNES release of Mortal Kombat 3 back in the day. It was a wise choice because I won many bets.

Most were indirect. I'd destroy people at it, and then they'd challenge me to Street Fighter II because it's a 'real game' (rofl) and I'd beat them in that, too. $$$

about 2 games were ever patched
also, that really isnt a good thing. that means less testing and more EA style bugs. >:(

And what does that have to do with the increased price of Next Gen console titles?

Poor game? You obviously weren't even around.

When Mortal Kombat 3 launched on SNES it was flawless. Most new marquee titles were $65 and over. I bought it at Wal-Mart. Remember Wal-Mart? The place where just a decade ago American products were sold by American people?

I was around
Around long enough to realise it was a poor game.
Congratulations on buying it at Wal-Mart. That must have really got your juices floowing back in the day eh?
Fact of the matter is, you were overcharged. Get over it.

I would have been overcharged if I had bought a crappy Genesis title, because all Genesis fighters were inferior to the SNES version.

They've been costing that much for at least 10 years. First game I bought for that price was Hexen for $54 in 95. I'm really surprised they haven't gone up more than they have.
