A 250cc is a big bike(for a dirtbike). My only advice is to ride within your level of comfort and skill, till you get used to the balance and power.
After you hit the 125cc class, a bike is a bike, except in how forgiving it is.

My 250cc has destroyed many a noob friend of mine because they thought they could get off their 125 and just go flying with mine. LAFF.
A 125cc has the power to take the average rider anywhere he wants to go. The 250cc does the same, but will/can also lift the front end or kick out the rear in pretty much any gear (which can be of concern if your going full out in 5/6th gear on a trail or road).
Oh, and if you can get a '94 Honda CR250 in good shape for $250; GO FOR IT. That's a great bike for a great price (so long as it's not bagged to shit).

already had a 125 and got bored of it because it wasnt giving me the punch i wanted, although i did come off it a few times (quite badly n all)

but that was mostly when i was learning, towards the end i did come off but that was because of me being a prat
the small wheel kx85 is great fun though because when you got a heavy guy like me on it the whore wants to kick me off at every chance it gets >: ]

lol
not really, its only about 20 lbs. more than a 125. more power sure, but not a big bike. I used to have a Husqvarna 400wr, now that was a monster
cr250 is a great bike. always has been. if it still runs good, you prob cant get a better bike for 250 bucks
