I really like Yahoo Maps because it's better. Google Maps is laggy and takes ages to load.
Plus the graphics are sort of 'airline safety booklet' simplistic. I like Yahoo Maps because it's clear and shows a lot of stuff.
Just a preference.

Hey you know what, when Google Maps is in a small window like that, it's not all that bad.
I still prefer Yahoo, though.
Edit: Is there a way of checking the map on the state level without specifying a city?

There was a segment about this on Techknowledge on the Discovery Science channel. Apparently people go around with an instrument to measure signals in the air, then use chalk to mark on the ground where people can get free access due to overflow from a nearby node (or something like that). They said you cna also get a signal form many stores like Starbucks, McDonalds, etc. Seems pretty cool, though I have no use for it myself. :icon14:

I use google maps on a reguar basis because it's convenient, but it regularly gets address locations wrong, which makes it suck in my onpinion. I typically only use it if I'm looking for street names, and not for addresses.

it can be laggy sometimes, but in terms of sophistication, google maps is way ahead of yahoo maps.

they were probably using something like this trick device:
wifi sniffer from Canary Wireless. much better than whipping out your laptop to find AP's.
also, the part about Starbucks, McDonalds, etc... those aren't free, so not sure why they bothered mentioning them.

Ah, the term 'sniffer' rings a bell. And about the businesses, I remember now that the host said "but you have to be a paying customer to use it". Though if you're gonig to be eating anyway, I suppose it's a good deal. :icon14:

I've never understood the demand for wifi in public places like restuarants. I guess it would be nice while on vacation or for people who never stop working.

i guess some people desire certain environments in order to enjoy their work.
Perhaps the anonymity of a cafe environment, coupled with a sense of being among other people, allows for certain forms of creativity, which may help with the work that someone is doing.

I suppose. I just prefer to keep my work to either home or in the office. When I go out it's partially to get away from responsibilities.

maybe people want to relax and browse the internet, or participate in online discussions, or create art, or brainstorm an idea for their corporation.
hmm - now i'm beginning to wonder: all those serious looking types who don their laptops at cafes - what are they actually doing on their computers?
