Holy fuck, he'd be nailed to the cross if he'd been a yank.
I wish we had a Galloway where i live... he doesn't take shit from anyone and puts the smack down quite regulary. His arguments even seem to be largely made up of facts and logic, which is a rarity these days amongst politicians.
What's that Respect party of his exactly... a bunch of neo-hippies or more sensible people? And is he really as insignificant in UK politics as his opponent claims in that article?

It wouldn't matter if we had someone like him here. Balkenende would be GWB's lapdog anyway.

Of course it matters... the way things are now here is that noone gives a shit. Things apparently need to explode and people need to get killed before that changes... a Galloway character could get a whole national discussion going before that happens.

Ah, but a certain amount of cuntishness is required in politics.

Some of the smaller socialist rag papers here praised Galloway for his testimony in front of some congressional panel not long ago.

i'm surprised nobody pounced on his 'arab daughters' remark about baghdad and jerusalem. i imagine the ADL is preparing a statement as we speak.
the remark about martyrs doesn't seem terribly controversial to me: he said "their martyrs", not just "martyrs", the implication that they - iraqis - see their war dead as martyrs.
the response from the government lackeys is worse, using the 'support our troops' blackmail line to shut people up. the idea that so-called 'insurgents' are going to be 'encouraged' by his comments (you know, as though they were on the verge of packing up and going home until galloway had his 10 cents worth) is ludicrous

EDIT: @ MQ
Exactly, that was some class stuff. Someone tried to smear him with some ridiculous shit (supposedly he took oil for food money), so he went there and gave them hell about everything he could think of.

Funny how the article I just read left off the "their" part of "martyrs". I think his remarks are a bit demogogic and perhaps pandering to the Arab audience, but pretty well on the mark.

yes, it is funny
"We don't know who they are, we don't know their names, we never saw their faces, they don't put up photographs of their martyrs, we don't know the names of their leaders."
i laughed all the way to the quote button
