Im still stuck on this heh.


I got many forums that work with windows, phpbb asp.net just tons of them, but im stuck on the database side. Each one when i get to the installation point where i configure, ofcourse tells me i need a data base.

This i have to admit i dont know a lot about, infact any at all. I have IIS up, i have the site up and functional, but im totaly lost on where to go next to get the database side up.


Im running IIS on 2003 server and yea, i know linux and apache is better and MYSQL is the way to go, but0 i have 3 microsoft tests in 4 months and i dont have much time to play with linux and stuff ill upgrade the system later. I wanna stay all MS right now so i can just chalk it up to a learning experience for my tests.

Well mysql is compatible with IIS. Or do you have a copy of MS SQL?

Well, im in the industry, so getting MS SQL isnt hard.

You think that would be better then MYSQL ? I got the windows MYSQL, but i havent even looked at it, i ran the install, but i dont see atleast a gui interface to config with or even a startup. I guess i have to hit the docs. but i dont know what im looking for, i dont undestand the relation ship between the DB and the forum, so i dont even know where to start for configuration.

That depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

Plain MySql server is free too guys

Thnx for the help guys. Im going to aquire MS SQL and just sit down and learn it and figure out how to do it step by step. Thnx for the input ill post a link here later once i get it up so you can all hack me and teach me how to run a secure site.

Yea i got time for that lol. Ill be very lucky if i can kepe my job at the end of the year, i just got the fucking test king and its 650+ pages haha, like 421 questions i have to memorize while working 14+ hours a day 6 days a week.

It's easier to learn how to do something than memorize test questions.. that's the difference between someone who is worth their certification and and someone who isn't, and why I dont have any kind of certification.

True words. Memorizing test questions doesn't help you any when it comes time to step up and get a task done. Iccy, you might also want to check up on the test changes Microsoft implemented earlier this year. Tests will now include simulations in order to weed out people who are doing exactly what you are.
