Billing Software (comparing many names in 2 files)

One of the ladies in my office is out sick today so me and 2 other guys got to do some billing work...(1 lady = 3 guys, believe me...was some tuff shit :icon32: )

To get to the point fast there is 2 files with many, many names and dates and payments. These 2 files should be the same but hardly ever are. So that is why she has to go through the two files once a month and make sure they are the same.

There a program out there that can compare 2 files and list what is different about them? This maybe a feature that is already in some MS office product, but since I've never missed with this side of the office I have no idea. Just trying to find something to make this easier on 'er.

Any tips?

Textpad has a compare feature that i've found very useful.

On the plus side, textpad is free and its just a text editor so theres no worry of bloatware or any of that, but on the downside the comparison isnt customizable at all, but for your purposes it ought to do.

I'm always amazed at the lack of intelligence most people in technical positions demonstrate.

Why isn't this information in a spreadsheet or database?

From the sounds of things this process shouldn't even be needed. If they had a computerized billing system they should have built the error checking into it.
