Playing Doom 64 for the first time...

Bought it today for £2...
OH MY GOD...
Playing the first bit could quite possibly have MORE tension than the entire of Doom 3. The music, the lighting, the shadows, the game is just perfect...
I just couldn't believe that even though its this old, its just amazing!
Anybody else here like it?

Yeah it's pretty good. I believe fileplanet has a link you can download it legally now.

Yeah, this guy, in conjunction with the guys that actually made DOOM 64, have made an extremely faithful total conversion for DOOM II using jDoom (the one that looks really nice).
And yes, it rules. I fucking LOVE it.
Download here.

Download the installer in the link, download the high quality music .wad and then put doom2.wad and the music wad in
c:\Absolution\Bin\Data\doom64\Auto\
And there it is.

Awesome.

Mouse look, jump, gl etc?
Doom 64 fucking rules it owns the PC versions to death. Its crazy good, and even when there was just a single pinky 20 feet away from me... I WAS SPOOKED. The tension was fantastic.

Mouse look I believe. Jumping is a cheat that you can unlock, I think. OpenGL, yes.
And fairly detailed customization of visual effects like particles, lighting stuff, etc, all in the UI.
And you don't need anything but the install package and the high quality music file to play. Have fun.

does the TC work with zdoom ?

Maybe if you do some minor hax0ring. The thing you download is an installer with a custom jDoom. I'm not sure if you could get it working in any other port. But jDoom is better suited for this thing, anyway. Don't get my wrong, ZDoom is cool for regular DOOM play, but to get the DOOM 64 experience, jDoom is better.

As long as it has the same music i'll get it, that what rocks the most.

It is the same music. And yes, that is the coolest part of DOOM 64.

No, this isn't the extra-silly 12 bar blues-based riffs of Bobby Prince. This is some really, really effective, unsettling ambient horror stuff.
It's the same stuff that's used in the PlayStation version of the game, too, I believe. But yeah, it's extremely effective in setting the tone for the game.

Bah =) My 64 music wad wasn't in the right place. So I still played with the original doom music :icon25:

Back to the TC, it would crash when I switched to the plasmagun after I installed the outcast levels on top of it. Anybody came across this ?

Haven't gotten to the plasma gun yet, but I'll let you know if it does.

You can quickly try it by playing the demo map. I tried installing *just* the engine update from this addon and I don't have the problem anymore (I had to anyway, my savegames wouldn't work otherwise).

That is really, really weird. Did you somehow mess up the installation?
